A Massive thank you Sally and Hettie

Unless you have run an on-line auction you really don't appreciate how much work goes into it.  From collecting items from, in Hettie's Howliday Auction case, all over the world, the photographs, the posts, the messages,  checking payments, packing, printing labels, and trips to the post office.  It really does become a full time job for a few weeks.  We are so incredibly grateful for Sally King and Hettie for running this annual auction for us again this year.  Sally has some amazing donators who we are also grateful to; people that never fail to bid on the items donated; and she also has a Sue and a Barbara who help with the sorting, packing and post...

Christmas opening

Christmas is just round the corner so we wanted to update you all on our plans for the festive period. We always stop adopting BRNGB bassets throughout December.  This is because December is normally a very busy period for most households; visiting family and friends; out visiting; parties, which we do not feel is a suitable environment for a basset to settle into a new home.   On the run up to December we ensure that our foster families are happy to continue caring for their foster hounds over the festive period, most of which will already be settled and happy within the home and have probably met all visitors already.   For the same reason, we also do not accept su...

Hettie's Howliday Auction for BRNGB

The fabulous Hettie Howliday Auction starts today!  Sally King and the gorgeous BRNGB Hound Hettie have been running this auction for the last few years all to raise funds for BRNGB.   When we say it's fabulous, we mean it.  We have no idea where Sally and Hettie obtain all the items, but we are truly grateful to everyone who donates.  There are items which you will not find in the UK, items get sent worldwide in this auction so you need to ensure you keep an eye on your bids and Hettie's page.  We've added a link to this below together with a little sample of some of the items you will be able to bid on.  All funds raised go to the hounds in our care ...

Jeff Slough

It is with great sadness that this evening we share the news that a true gent and avid supporter of BRNGB passed away last night. Jeff had been a huge part of the BRNGB family and brand from day one. He was the designer and brains behind our wonderful website; he helped launch BRNGB's first ever fundraiser all those years ago; and was always on the end of the phone for a stupid question when we broke the website; forgot passwords; needed new email addresses; and of course the winter snow flakes on the website. He would happily take the mickey, tell us where we were going wrong, and fix anything IT'ish for us. Jeff was always on hand professionally, and of course the banter would f...

Beau update

An update from Beau's foster family  Beau continues to improve . He is a lovely boy, who loves people and other dogs.  A little separation anxiety, but after what he has been through that is not surprising, but he is getting better each day.  His wish list goodies first arrived after he was admitted to hospital, so we saved posting until the others arrived - we can't thank everyone enough for all the love and support shown to Beau, and ourselves. It has been overwhelming!  As you can see Beau loves his gifts. He did try to get into the treats, but for now they are not on the menu!  We have been out on short walks. He gets tired quickly still , although this is gettin...

Beau - what a start to the week

The only words that are needed for this update is  BEAU IS HOME Beau came home late last night.  He's eating, he's playing and loving being back with his foster family.  The resident hounds welcomed him home like a long lost buddy.  We will update later today, right now we don't need to say anything more but just enjoy this moment with us, and know you were part of this journey, you helped make this happen, you helped save this boy!  We have a new wish list for Beau if you are able to donate. A few things he needs including his special food.  We know you've all donated so much and you blow our minds every time. To every one of Beau's Army, t...

Beau Update - just wait until you see this!

Now the photo above may cause upset, but this is because of the video at the bottom!  Oh yes! Beau has turned a corner, he's been moved into the main dog ward where he is desperately trying to play with the other dogs!  His foster parents went to visit him yesterday and it was kisses and cuddles galore!  His bottom tube has been removed, and (sorry we know it's Sunday breakfast time but this is worth celebrating) his poop is now forming!  Woohooo - yes we celebrate poop Beau is eating better and the IV fluids have been reduced, it really is the most positive update we've received so far!  To think that Beau has been in hospital longer than he has spent at his foster ...

Holiday giveaway time!

Whilst we appreciate all the donations we have received for Beau, which currently have just about covered his vet bills (more on Beau to follow)  we do have another 20 hounds in our care who all require funds whilst in foster.  Gaynor and Phil have kindly donated another stay at their tranquil Hideaway Cottage for one of you wonderful supporters to win.   This cottage is a dog lovers paradise; it's so dog friendly it not only has an enclosed garden, but also a wonderful, fenced off open space for your hounds to run, or bumble around if you don't fancy a walk.  All you have to do is open a gate, cross a cute little bridge and freedom is all theirs!  It even ...

Holly - Still searching for her forever home

The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain #NOBASSETGETSFORGOTTEN  Name: Holly  Sex: Female  Age: 13 years old Location: Staffordshire Holly joined us in August for her foster assessment where she has proved to be a lovely lady. She celebrated her 13th birthday with us, with cake of course! Holly has previously lived with other dogs, children and cats. Currently she is in foster with cats and a rabbit with no other dogs. There had been an issue between Holly and a smaller dog with her original family where she had snapped at this one particular dog. There seemed to be no apparent trigger for this, and although there was no bite the harmony in the home had changed. Holly origin...

Beau's update

Yesterday morning the vet called with his update, he's not better, but he's no worse. He is still pouring out watery diarrhoea, and he needs to stay on iIV fluids to replace his losses as a lot, even though he has finally started to drink, it is not enough to replace his losses.  He has continued to eat little at a time, but being given food frequently to keepn his gut going, so the feeding tube is still absent, which is good as Beau was apparently distressed with it anyway!  Bloods stable - they monitor his electrolytes regularly because of the diarrhoea and iv fluids.  The vet considered Addisons Disease, but they don't think this fits clinically or with ...

Lincoln looking for his new home

The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain #NOBASSETGETSFORGOTTEN  Name: Lincoln  Sex: Male  Age: 7 Location: Lancashire  Meet Lincoln, the softest boy with the biggest heart. Lincoln is an absolute cuddle monster; he wants nothing more than to be pet and snuggle up with his humans. If you aren't showing him attention he will sit and chat at you until you give him loves. He's a gentle creature and is sweet with all animals he has encountered, cats, dogs, chickens and horses. He lives with me and my resident hound Wilma, he has shown no dominance traits however, can be a bit food possessive and may tell Wilma off if she is too close to his bone or kibble. He shows no aggre...

Update on Beau - we can't thank you enough

We had the update from the vet this morning which you have all been waiting for, which is positive, but Beau is far from out of the woods yet.  Before we go into details of how Beau is doing, can we take a moment to thank every each and one of you.   Your messages of support, your outpouring of love for Beau and us, your donations, your prayers, even just a share or a like on Beau's posts have given us all a massive lift in our spirits.  To know this boy has his Army behind him, has made this fight slightly easier for all of us.   Don't get us wrong, Beau still has a fight and a long road ahead of him, but every tiny step of his little paws, is a step in the rig...

Beau needs to be surrounded by his Army

Beau needs his Army!  Every hound who joins the BRNGB family has their own supporters. Some have whole a whole army, and right now Beau needs every single one of you. This is a four year old boy, a boy who has suffered with his health on and off all his life. We have all of his vet records and so do the vets, but he's never been this poorly, he is literally at the gate to the bridge. Beau arrived in our care on Saturday at four years old. Saturday night and Sunday he was doing really well. Monday morning, one of the other resident bassets woke the foster family up barking, which is unusual. When they went to check on the hounds there was vomit, bloody diarrhoea and urine everywhere. It ...

A fabulous update on wonderful Alfie

You will remember Alfie joined us in September at 11 years old, after he was found at home, alone with his owner who had passed away.   We discovered shortly after his arrival, Alfie has a very large cancerous growth on his spleen and it was decided, along with the vet that surgery was not an option for Alfie so he would be kept comfortable and happy until he's ready to cross the bridge.  It's been a bit of a rollacoaster the last couple of weeks with Alfie; early October he was suffering with a very upset tummy, but he was begining to trust and come out of his shell, giving kisses and hugs to his foster parents.   Here's a little update from them from over...

Please welcome Bertie and Basil

Bertie, or Bertie Blue as he's affectionatly known, and his brother Basil joined the BRNGB family yesterday.  They are both 11 years old and have grown up together.  Bertie, in case you hadn't guessed has one blue eye.   The boys are very much bonded, Basil being the more confident and Bertie being more anxious.  They have settled into foster really well, the snores that come out of Basil could wake the neighbours next door but one!  They are described by their foster family as "Dreamboats" even if they gave a very early morning warning they needed out at 4.30 this morning.  They will be having their vet check in the next few days and we will update further...

Toby - Applications closed

The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain #NOBASSETGETSFORGOTTEN  Name:Toby  Sex: Male  Age: 15 months  Location:  Cornwall Toby is currently 15 months old. We are looking for a forever home for him where he can settle, continue learning with positive reinforcement training, be loved and when the time is right be neutered. Ideally, we will not be consenting to Toby being neutered until he has settled into his new home, so at least 3 months. The right family will need to adopt Toby under a neuter agreement. This means we will be contacting his family on a weekly basis to see how Toby is progressing, we will need to have direct access to their vet, and be consulted wh...

Becky Applications closed

The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain #NOBASSETGETSFORGOTTEN  Name: Becky  Sex: Female Age: 12 Location: Suffolk Becky is a 12 Year old Basset Fauve de Bretagne. Her last weigh in at the vet was 14.3KG. The vet was pleased with her health. Becky joined us after her mum passed away, and since she has been in our care she has slowly been coming out of her grief and showing signs of being more confident. Although she is currently living with two other hounds, she is not interested in forming a bond with them, she is more a human contact girl, and that seems to be when she is at her happiest. Originally when she arrived, she would take herself off to the sofa or a bed an...

Please Welcome Beau

4 year old Beau joined the BRNGB family at the weekend.   He's settled in really well with a pack of hounds in foster and is doing well. He had quite the transport yesterday including a ferry and a car journey and took it all in his stride.  Once he's settled he will have his vet check and we will be able to update further.  We know he does suffer with allergies so will be careful with what he eats, althogh he loves his food!  Beau has a little wish list below, as always everything donated stays with the hound throughout foster and onto their new homes.  If you would rather donate to Beau's care the link below  Massive thank you to his transport team for ge...

Update on lovely old lady Peggy

Peggy joined us on the 14th September at the grand age of 15 years old.  She settled into foster life well and has been enjoying short walks, mooches around the garden and eating chicken.  For her age she has been doing really well; loving shouting at people on her walks.   Sadly however, Peggy's health has gone down hill, she has suffered what we and the vet believe to be, a minor stroke.  Since then she hasn't been herself, sleeping a lot and not really fussed about food.   In situations like this, we as a team will make a decision with the hound's foster family as to what quality of life the hound has.  Peggy is happy enough in herself, however...

An update on little potato Winston

Just look at the little potato (well he's getting a big potato now!) Winston.   You may remember when Winston first joined us at 4 month old in August.  He's doing amazingly and is loving life, he's learning so very much from the resident spaniel.  He's been on holiday inlcuding exploring the beach and is generally being a wonderful puppy.   He's progressed from land sharking toes to shins as he grows!   However, sadly he does have an issue with his tail.  This was noticed on his arrival with us and after a vet check we all believed that it had probably been broken somehow before he arrived in our care and that it shouldn't cause any issues.&...

Please welcome Maisie

Please welcome 6 year old  Maisie into the BRNGB family.  Maisie arrived yesterday.  She's a very nervous girl who is quite upset by her recent adventures.   Maisie's owner sadly passed away recently and his family couldn't keep her.  She is loving being around her foster dad and seems to prefer men at the moment (her owner was male). Our condolences to Maisie's family.   She had quite an unsettled night and is showing signs of anxiety about being left.  She has been left for up to 4 hours in the past so we are hopeful this will settle once she knows she is safe and loved.   Maisie will have a full vet check in the coming days. ...

Biscuit Update

We thought it was time to have a Biscuit update!  As a reminder, Biscuit arrived in our care in July; he was a poorly boy, poor body condition, very scared, and was pooping blood which was a massive concern.   Biscuit was examined by an emergency vet the first day he arrived which is unusual, it's rare that new hounds have to be seen the same day of arrival.  Biscuit was given some meds and then examined by his normal vets later in the week.  A lump in his bottom was discovered, a lump which was assumed to be a removable polyp.  This was the cause of the blood when toileting and we all agreed that it should be removed as was clearly giving the boy trou...

Update on Puppy Winston

A long overdue update on our favorite little potato Winston! He's fully vaccinated now, and he is certainly enjoying the big wide world and is exploring happily. He's been on holiday, investigtaed a steam train, met a giant polar bear, he still snuggles up and sleeps with his elephant which arrived with him. He's nearly the same size as it now! He's very polite with everyone and anyone he meets, if he's not sure he hangs back a little until he finds his confidence He's recently been to the vet as his skin has flared up, could well be because he's now venturing out and about; he's weighing in at a very respectable 13KG now, he was 9.4KG on his first vet visit. He's been recommended some medic...

Thank you for the birthday love

We are all incredibly touched and overwhelmed by all of your birthday love.  Looking through all the messages and photos we received yesterday really did remind us what a wonderful charity we have, all those hounds we have helped, all of those families we have helped. Not only is it a wonderful charity but a fabulous community has been built.  Strangers are friends, helping each other, hounds (and not just BRNGB ones) are loved from afar.  We are so very proud of our charity.....and when we say "our", we mean everyone who supports us in any way they can, this is your charity too.   Remember.......it takes a village and my goodness we have the best village with us!&nb...

Happy 11th Birthday to us

From an idea of setting up a Basset Rescue all those years ago, all the way through to welcoming the 668th hound into the family just a few hours ago. It's been a journey that has made us all smile, laugh, cry, despair but most of all, come together and love this very special breed.  On our 10th birthday we celebrated rescuing 602 hounds, today we celebrate 668 hounds making us what we are.  Not only is it our day to celebrate, it's your day too.  You have always been there supporting us, sharing your love of this amazing breed, volunteering for us, donating to us.  You are all amazing and help us achieve the dream which became reality all those years ago. ...
