Meet Frank and Delilah Please note that the photos and story of these two hounds are heartbreaking, but needs to be told. This is a case of pure neglect and these hounds are in serious need of care and medical attention. Frank is 8 years old and Delilah is a couple of years younger at 6 years old. We were contacted by a Basset lover and asked if we could help these two hounds. They had adopted them from a "rescue" where we believe the hounds had been since January. It is clear that no medical treatment had been sought for these hounds, either by the previous owner who left them at the "rescue" or the "rescue" themselves. Evelyn Walker, 1940-2023.  Evelyn spent her life in and around Workington, Cumbria.  She was married, had two human children, and many furry ones!  Like many, she could be stubborn and didn't need to say a word to let anyone know she wasn't happy or disagreed with them – a look (glower) made her feelings clear. Fiercely independent, although she was only 5 ft tall, she had at least 6 ft of character!  Evelyn's Basset Hound Journey started in 1970, when the family purchased Fred. Her son, then aged 7, loved the Fred Basset cartoons and Fred was bought as a surprise, after a long hospitalisation. From then until suffering a stroke in 2018, Evelyn was never without a basset....

Sorry for our lack of updates on Bertie and Daisy. They both had their vet check just before Christmas. Bertie was suffering badly from a very nasty ear infection. He was initially started off with some drops and also steroids. It was very painful for him and he wasn't a fan of his ears being touched. Bertie also has some teeth that needs to be looked at. Shortly after Bertie started his medication he became very poorly with suspected bloat .A phone call with the vet and they were on standby to get Bertie into the vets. You may recall young Barney joined us as an emergency at the end of January.   Because of the nature of his surrender things moved very quickly and Barney spent the last 2 weeks in emergency foster whilst we could place him with a permanent foster.  Those first 2 weeks have been a huge insight into Barney.  It was a difficult road for his foster family who we are incredibly grateful to for their assistance with this young lad.  We know some of Barney's background; we do believe that events from his past have led to fear behaviours arising in certain situations.  Those two weeks gave us an insight into Barney's triggers and have enabled us to ...

Camp Basset is back for 2025! We have been quite quiet about Olive since she joined us as the first Hound of 2025. Olive is still under assessment so any enquiries regarding adopting her, however cute, polite and begging will not be answered. We know you all love our Hounds, but we will not be answering questions about Hounds under assessment. As you can see Norman has made himself right at home with his foster family and their pack . Poor Cluseau has been through it the last couple of weeks.   Yes the poor boy has had his boy operation.  This was very distressing for his foster family as he couldn't eat in the morning.  He was snuffling around the kitchen crying for his food.  Obviously not being able to see he relies on his snooter and it just couldn't find a morsel to eat   Apart from his surgery, he's been doing really well.  Still has a huge bond with Lenny who he enjoys cuddling up to.  Even BRNGB Nelson has warmed to his ways.   His skin is massively better, his sore bits are no longer sore and he's put on a nice amount of weight which was needed.  On...

Lovely lady Honey has had her vet check and sadly she appears to be suffering from urine crystals.  She has medication to try to resolve the issue, but if her urine tests haven't changed in the next few days she will need to have a scan.  We do think however that the medication is working as she doesn't seem to be in pain with her tummy/bladder area anymore, and she is managing to control her weeing, although she drinks an awful lot.  We are monitoring all this with her foster mum and will keep you updated.  She loves going on walks and exploring and is being such a good girl.  Honey does need a few bits and pieces, her wish list is below if you are able to dona...

Henry, or King Henry as he is affectionately known joined the BRNGB family back at the beginning of September. Henry is 5 years old and on his arrival, he weighed a whopping 44 KG (6.9 stone in old money). As handsome as Henry looked, carrying all that extra weight was causing him massive issues. Henry would refuse to walk more than a few meters, possibly due to pain carrying all that extra weight. The weight was probably also causing issues with his heart and lungs. By the end of October Henry weighed in at 34KG (5.3 stone), that's a whopping 10KG off in the space of 2 months which is mind blowing amazing. Cooper arrived in the BRNGB family today.  He's a stunning lad who reminds us all of Agnes, the stray girl who you all named.   Cooper is under assessment and is not ready to be adopted, any applications will go unanswered.  Cooper is 9 months old and has been surrendered to us by his loving family when circumstances changed for them all.   He's a true credit to them as he is proving, so far, what a lovely lad he is.  He was a dream for our transport team and has had a little mooch around the village where his foster parents live, and as you can see, settled down for a post mooch / pre dinner snooze. Biscuit arrived in our care on the 14th July and upon his arrival it was apparent all was not well with his bottom. You'll recall after various visits to the vets, attempts of surgery it was discovered Biscuit had a polyp in his bottom which could not be operated on due to the complexity of the surgery together with Biscuits age, we felt it wouldn't be kind to put him through such major surgery which could involve breaking his pelvis and risk his bowel flooding his insides. There were thoughts that potentially it could be cancer but thankfully this wasn't proved on the tests. Biscuit was home with his foster family, who went on to officially adopt him. 7 month old Olive joined the BRNGB family today.  Please note she is under assessment and is not ready to be adopted so any enquiries regarding her will go unanswered.  We don't know a lot about Olive, but she is a very playful, happy, good puppy.  She knows basic commands, although she has already christened the kitchen floor.   She's had a busy afternoon playing hard and has discovered the sofa is a good place to snuggle.  She was very good on her transport run to foster and very polite and welcoming with play with the resident dog.  Olive will be going to the vet in the next few days for a full check up and we will know more after.  Olive does ...

It's been a busy year at BRNGB for 2024, a total of 49 hounds were surrendered into our care over the last 12 months.   Our quietest month was January, the busiest being July with 9 hounds being surrendered, 5 of which arrived with us the same weekend. Surprisingly, we didn't have any hounds join us in November. We've had blind bassets, old bassets, baby bassets, stray bassets, abandoned bassets, incredibly poorly bassets, loving bassets, happy bassets, grieving bassets......all loved by their foster families, us and our wonderful supporters.     Out of the 49 hounds 14 remained in foster for Christmas, all the rest, except 2, found their forever homes.  We...

Maisie joined the BRNGB family back in October.  As soon as she arrived it was apparent that she had issues with her skin and a few lumps and bumps that needed to be looked into.   Her skin has really improved and in the last few weeks she has undergone tests on her lumps. On the 10th December she went to have her poorly ears flushed and her dental.  The hope was that she would also have her lumps investigated.  A needle aspiration on the lump on her face was undertaken and thankfully this has come back clear.   The lump on her foot however was more of a mystery.   When the vet went in to investigate, they found it was full of ...

Lovely lad Hank joined the BRNGB family in the last couple of weeks.  Hank is under assessment and is not ready to be adopted, any applications for him will go unanswered.  Hank is 8 years old and had lived with his original family since a puppy along with their cat and in later years a small child.  Hank does have some resource tendencies when it comes to food and his own personal space (sounds like a hound after my own heart!)
