The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain #NOBASSETGETSFORGOTTEN  Name: Bertie and Daisy  Sex:  Male and Female  Age: (B) 8 (D) 5 Location: Somerset  Daisy and Bertie are looking for their forever home. You may remember that they joined the BRNGB family after being re-patriated to the UK just before Christmas 2024. Bertie has the whiter face and is 8 years old, Daisy is just nearing 6 years old. This pair are quite bonded and in the early days of being in foster they relied on each other for comfort. Although they do have their sibling spats every now and then and are chalk and cheese in their personalities. They are currently in foster with 2 beagles and 2 cats and...

Update on Cooper the young Hound suffering with Hip Dysplasia

We thought you'd like an update on young lad Cooper. You'll recall that Cooper has quite significant hip dysplasia which needs therapy until he is fully grown, then a decision can be made whether he requires surgery or not. Cooper has started on YouMove to help support his joints. His walks are kept controlled and relaxed so he doesn't over stress his joints. Cooper has also started, and loves, hydrotherapy. As you can see from the photos, Cooper loves his new Aunty Cathy of Peak District Canine Hydrotherapy, and we think he's decided the hydro is just an excuse to get more cuddles and love! Cooper has had 2 sessions so far and is doing really well with this. It's too early to see a differen...

Please welcome Angus

Please give a big BRNGB Welcome to 4 year old Angus who joined the family this weekend.  Angus is under assessment and is not ready to be adopted, any enquiries regarding Angus will not be answered.  After every one of his transporters falling in love with him, Angus arrived with his foster family yesterday full of excitement.  A total bundle of energy that wanted to be involved in everything.    After making his feeling heard about not being asleep with his foster mum, he got his own way and snuggled down on her bed last night!  Today he's been a lot calmer and more relaxed about events.  He's had a walk, played happily with the resident hound, visite...

Update on Frank and Delilah

After the best part of a week of treatment, care and love Frank and Delilah have really come on in leaps and bounds.  They are both really loving hounds, happy to play with the other resident hounds, happy to cuddle up together and have a nap.  They are still very much bonded, but they are not now as worried to be away from each other.  They like to know where the other is, but they are both happy to trundle off and do their own thing and meet up again when they are ready.  Delilah certainly isn't protecting Frank as much anymore.  Although Frank is a bit of a drama lama when it comes to medication and when he puts on his best walrus impression, Delilah will be ...

Please welcome Logan and his wish list

Please give a big BRNGB welcome to Logan who joined the BRNGB family a few days ago.  Logan is 4 years old and is showing himself to be a lovely boy.  He does suffer with some skin issues which his previous owner addressed so we will be mindful of this and ensure this doesn't flare up again.  He's a strong lad on lead and is reported to love all other dogs and people.  Logan does have a wish list if you are able to donate.  These items, as always will stay with him through to his forever home. If you would rather donate to his care then the link to do so is below.  We will update on Logan as his journey progresses, but as you can see he's settled in happily...

Please welcome Henry and his wish list

Please welcome Henry into the BRNGB family. The 13th Hound to join us in 2025. Please do not make any enquiries regarding Henry, he is under assessment and any enquiries will go unanswered. Henry has just turned 3 years old and has some issues which we are going to be working on to iron out. He's incredibly strong on lead; he's people and dog fear reactive; he's not a fan of entire dogs. Noises and traffic also worry him when outside. But he's also a very loving, sweet, cuddly boy. We knew before Henry joined us that he would need a specific foster home. Henry was assessed before joining us so nothing we have learnt about him has come as a shock. In his previous home he was showing signs of ...

Update on the lovely lad Cooper

Cooper has settled into foster life very well. We'd go as far as to say he has his foster family wrapped around every single one of his paws! He's a stunning lad and just so loving. A little while after he joined the BRNGB family it was noted that he would have a little limp every now and then; this was put down to charging around like a loon and chasing the birds in what he decided was HIS garden! At his initial vet check, he was checked all over, deemed to be a little star and weighed 23.2KG.He was given an anti-inflammatory/pain killer injection and we were advised if no improvement an X-Ray would be needed. The injection seemed to have worked, and Cooper once he had a few days of cuddles...

Update on the lovely Honey

Honey is a lovely lady, although somewhat of a quandary the last few weeks. The blood in her urine returned. We knew this was a issue for her and that if the antibiotics didn't clear this up then it could be a deep rooted infection or a kidney function issue. We agreed that any other treatment needed to go on hold and investigations into what was causing the blood need to be made. As well as the blood Honey was showing signs of discomfort in her stomach which of course as positive. So we gave the go ahead for blood tests, extensive testing on her urine together with an x-ray/ultrasound. We were given an estimate of £300-£400.00 by the vet. The results of the tests showed that there were...

Warning - incredibly distressing - please meet Frank and Delilah

Meet Frank and Delilah Please note that the photos and story of these two hounds are heartbreaking, but needs to be told. This is a case of pure neglect and these hounds are in serious need of care and medical attention. Frank is 8 years old and Delilah is a couple of years younger at 6 years old. We were contacted by a Basset lover and asked if we could help these two hounds. They had adopted them from a "rescue" where we believe the hounds had been since January. It is clear that no medical treatment had been sought for these hounds, either by the previous owner who left them at the "rescue" or the "rescue" themselves. From what we have seen this is not a rescue and not a registered charit...

Please welcome Dolly and Dougal

Dolly and Dougal joined the BRNGB family recently.  Dolly is 11 and Dougal is 8 years old.  They are very much a bonded pair and take comfort with each other being close.  They are under assessment so please no enquiries regarding their adoption.  Enquiries of any form will not be responded to.  They are a very loving, active pair.  They've spent a few days in temp foster as they had to come to use quickly.  They are now with their permanent foster, and they are loving the play in the garden with the resident hound.  They do need a few bits and pieces, so if you are able to donate to their wish list we would be grateful.  They both require grain f...

Please welcome Larry and a wish list

Please give a big BRNGB welcome to Larry who is just nearing his 5th birthday. Larry is under assessment and we will not be responding to any enquiries about his adoption. Larry sadly joined the family yesterday; his mum has been poorly and with that in mind she knew she couldn't continue to look after Larry. He's taking his time settling in, which is understandable, it's all very new.  His BRNGB Hound foster sister is dying to get him playing but he's happy just exploring at the moment.  He loves to think he's a lap dog and is demanding a lot of belly rubs and cuddles which of course his foster parents are more than happy to assist with. He spent his first night in the ...

Please welcome Gaston and his wish list

Please welcome 4 year old Gaston to the BRNGB family. Gaston is under assessment and is not ready to be adopted so please now enquiries, however polite, nice and sweet they are, they will not be answered.  We were contacted by one of our transport volunteers recently who knows Gaston's family who has been helping them with coming to terms with the very difficult and heart-breaking decision to surrender this lovely boy.  They've tried so hard to keep him but some dynamics with another resident dog just wouldn't work.  Between Gaston and the other dog they knew that, with the other dog's issues it would Gaston that would be surrendered and they would continue to work h...

Evelyn Walker's For the Love of Bassets Estate Sale

Evelyn Walker, 1940-2023.  Evelyn spent her life in and around Workington, Cumbria.  She was married, had two human children, and many furry ones!  Like many, she could be stubborn and didn't need to say a word to let anyone know she wasn't happy or disagreed with them – a look (glower) made her feelings clear. Fiercely independent, although she was only 5 ft tall, she had at least 6 ft of character!  Evelyn's Basset Hound Journey started in 1970, when the family purchased Fred. Her son, then aged 7, loved the Fred Basset cartoons and Fred was bought as a surprise, after a long hospitalisation. From then until suffering a stroke in 2018, Evelyn was never without a basset....

Update on Bertie and Daisy

Sorry for our lack of updates on Bertie and Daisy. They both had their vet check just before Christmas. Bertie was suffering badly from a very nasty ear infection. He was initially started off with some drops and also steroids. It was very painful for him and he wasn't a fan of his ears being touched. Bertie also has some teeth that needs to be looked at. Shortly after Bertie started his medication he became very poorly with suspected bloat .A phone call with the vet and they were on standby to get Bertie into the vets. His wonderful foster family got him into the vets to be checked over. Thankfully the vet deemed there was no bloat, his stomach and heart were fine and all they could pin poi...

Update on Barney and problems with his wishlist

You may recall young Barney joined us as an emergency at the end of January.   Because of the nature of his surrender things moved very quickly and Barney spent the last 2 weeks in emergency foster whilst we could place him with a permanent foster.  Those first 2 weeks have been a huge insight into Barney.  It was a difficult road for his foster family who we are incredibly grateful to for their assistance with this young lad.  We know some of Barney's background; we do believe that events from his past have led to fear behaviours arising in certain situations.  Those two weeks gave us an insight into Barney's triggers and have enabled us to ...

Olive is still under assessment so any enquiries regarding adopting her, however cute, polite and begging will not be answered. We know you all love our Hounds, but we will not be answering questions about Hounds under assessment. Once they are ready to be blogged and adopted, you will be the first to know To say she is a high energy, cheeky, attention seeking diva wouldn't be wrong of us. Update on Norman and today's BOOST donations

As you can see Norman has made himself right at home with his foster family and their pack . Now we're not saying his spoilt but when the team get sent the photo above on his first morning, we just know he's going to be fine and dandy!   Norman has had his vet check and they are happy with him.  He's a nice weight of 30.6KG and apart from his neutering he's in good health.  He had his surgery today and is at home recovering under the watchful eye of BRNGB Haggis.  I think Haggis is more judgey of the events of today than Norman!   One of our wonderful supporters, Lin, contacted us this morning and asked whether she could put a post up asking for our su...

Cluseau update

Poor Cluseau has been through it the last couple of weeks.   Yes the poor boy has had his boy operation.  This was very distressing for his foster family as he couldn't eat in the morning.  He was snuffling around the kitchen crying for his food.  Obviously not being able to see he relies on his snooter and it just couldn't find a morsel to eat   Apart from his surgery, he's been doing really well.  Still has a huge bond with Lenny who he enjoys cuddling up to.  Even BRNGB Nelson has warmed to his ways.   His skin is massively better, his sore bits are no longer sore and he's put on a nice amount of weight which was needed.  On...

Maisie looking for her forever home

The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain #NOBASSETGETSFORGOTTEN  Name: Maisie  Sex: Female  Age: 6  Location: North Wales  Maisie has been in foster since October 2024 and has proved herself to be a lovely, loving little girl.  The only reason why her foster family are putting her blog out there to the world is because they want to continue to foster, even though it's breaking their hearts to say goodbye to this little girl.  Maisie arrived with us a closed down, nervous girl who's male owner had passed away. She was anxious on arrival and needed to be near people, her foster dad especially. We immediately noticed a lump on her foot, her side and her head...

Update and Wish list for Honey

Lovely lady Honey has had her vet check and sadly she appears to be suffering from urine crystals.  She has medication to try to resolve the issue, but if her urine tests haven't changed in the next few days she will need to have a scan.  We do think however that the medication is working as she doesn't seem to be in pain with her tummy/bladder area anymore, and she is managing to control her weeing, although she drinks an awful lot.  We are monitoring all this with her foster mum and will keep you updated.  She loves going on walks and exploring and is being such a good girl.  Honey does need a few bits and pieces, her wish list is below if you are able to dona...

King Henry's journey to a healthy future

Henry, or King Henry as he is affectionately known joined the BRNGB family back at the beginning of September. Henry is 5 years old and on his arrival, he weighed a whopping 44 KG (6.9 stone in old money). As handsome as Henry looked, carrying all that extra weight was causing him massive issues. Henry would refuse to walk more than a few meters, possibly due to pain carrying all that extra weight. The weight was probably also causing issues with his heart and lungs. By the end of October Henry weighed in at 34KG (5.3 stone), that's a whopping 10KG off in the space of 2 months which is mind blowing amazing. We are so pleased to say Henry had a further weigh in at the vets this last week and ...

Please welcome Cooper

Cooper arrived in the BRNGB family today.  He's a stunning lad who reminds us all of Agnes, the stray girl who you all named.   Cooper is under assessment and is not ready to be adopted, any applications will go unanswered.  Cooper is 9 months old and has been surrendered to us by his loving family when circumstances changed for them all.   He's a true credit to them as he is proving, so far, what a lovely lad he is.  He was a dream for our transport team and has had a little mooch around the village where his foster parents live, and as you can see, settled down for a post mooch / pre dinner snooze. Cooper will be having his vet check in the next few days ...
