Most definitely time for an update on the lovely Molly who so many of you fell in love with and helped with your generosity.
As you will be aware, Molly had her right eye removed; upon arrival in our care it was apparent that there was a serious issue and her eye needed to be removed (please do read this page in full for her full story if you haven’t already)
Molly’s surgery went ahead without any issues and she was home the same day safe and sound on the 17th August.
It was discovered that her bladder is quite a mess and EColi was also present as well as a bladder stone (you’ll recall she was going to have a bladder scan whilst in for her surgery). Steroids have also been given to help with the bladder problems.
Specialist food has been recommended, ordered and is being consumed which will assist with the bladder issue. If it doesn’t have the desired effect, Molly could well be facing further surgery, which we really want to try to avoid.
Obviously a lot of antibiotics and metacam were required in the early days, but as you can see from the photos below, Molly is healing wonderfully. It always blows our minds how quick these hounds bounce back; we’ve said it before and we’ll say it again “imagine a human going through this, they’d be laid up for weeks”. The relief from the pain she has suffered for so long must be immense.
A couple of days after the surgery Molly enjoyed a little walk and a sniff, during which she had to be reminded she was in recovery and needed to calm down and stop being so energetic!
Molly has of course been back to the vet for her post op visit. They were very happy with her and started her vaccinations. At her later second post op visit she had the stitches removed and she looks fabulous.

Molly is all booked in for the enucleation of her right eye tomorrow.
She has also been battling a nasty UTI which she has been taking antibiotics for. This is clearing up, but we fear it is quite deep set so when Molly is having her surgery tomorrow she will also have a scan of her bladder to ensure that everything there is heading in the right direction.
Considering the pain she is no doubt in, she is the most loving, fun, zoomie girl. She adores being out and about; she’s had fun on some local waddles; and boy does she get recognised and swooned over!
So please join us in wishing Molly well for her surgery tomorrow; send positive thoughts, slobber and love to both Molly and her foster parents.

Over 2,500 of you have already welcomed Molly, but let’s give her a BRNGB official welcome.
Firstly, thank you so much for the out-pour of love and donations for this wonderful little girl. We have tried to answer every single one of you and will continue to do so. We are truly touched by the support you have shown, words really aren’t enough.
So what’s Molly’s story?
Molly is just over 9 years old, we were contacted by her owner for our help; the obvious issue being her eye. We know that Molly was seen by a vet some time ago, back when her eye started showing signs of Glaucoma. As a lot of us know, this is a disease which isn’t a stranger to basset hounds; it is caused by increased intraocular pressure, when the aqueous humor cannot drain properly, which can cause significant pain and more than likely blindness.
Sadly Molly’s eye has not been treated in this time; but we don’t judge, and we don’t disclose personal reasons as to why not; we step in and help where we can.
So what is next for this beautiful girl:-
Molly arrived in our care on the 4th August, and a vet known to her foster family kindly came to their home to examine Molly. We didn’t want any further upheaval to stress this lovely girl.
The report from the vet is that Molly can close her eye; and although does not appear to be in major pain, she’s probably more than likely just got used to the pain and the pressure in her head and merrily carried on. Before surgery the vet wants to take bloods and also a urine sample as Molly appears to also have a UTI. The bloods are to ensure she is fit and healthy for her surgery.
Her eye does sadly need removing, but right now it is stable. Thank goodness as we were very concerned it was getting to the point of possible further bulging or worse… once the blood tests have been completed Molly will be going for her eye removal, we are aiming for 7 to 10 days.
Molly does also require some dental work, however that will and can wait until her eye surgery is fully recovered. The vet will not do this at the same time as there is a huge bacteria risk transferred from mouth to eye wound.
The estimate for the surgery and Molly’s bills so far are below. As we said we are overwhelmed by the love, support and donations Molly has received, the funds raised will be going towards her eye surgery, if there is any left, it will go towards her dental surgery and anything else she needs. IF there is anything left in the pot we will add this to Willow’s fundraiser for her eye surgery. Thank you everyone for providing for Molly. (Keep reading to the end for the cuteness)

Now for the cute, fuzzy bit, who sees a heart on this wonderful girl’s side? It’s a heart she should wear with pride as she is a very lovely girl. She has settled into foster life with two other BRNGB bassets. She slept all night happily sharing their space; has been on a little walk which she thoroughly enjoyed and is eating well. She really has taken the last 36 hours in her little basset stride.
