Please give a big BRNGB welcome to Aggie AKA Agatha.
Aggie is one of two sister who joined us at last weekend. Aggie is currently under assessment and is not ready for her forever home; please do not make enquiries, as they will go unanswered at this time.
Aggie is just over 2 years old and is the more nervy of the two girls (her sister Yara will be introduced shortly).
This lovely girl came to us from her original family, where she was basically a “free range” basset. She lived very rural and was rarely inside a home.
Aggie has spent the first week in foster exploring the home in her own time. It really has been a case of a room a day if and when she felt the need. The garden was also explored a step at a time. Absolutely no pressure for her to be nosing anywhere, and each time she wondered into a new space this has been quietly celebrated. Aggie is very nervy and timid little girl, but so very loving, and absolutely adores her food, which helps to build confidence. She’s a little shadow and has her safe spaces in the house, mainly under the kitchen table!
The postman produced a gravy bone from his pocket on their first meeting, which Aggie took happily.
As soon as Aggie arrived at her foster home, it became apparent that she has an infection in her eyes. Her foster family spent time working on building trust with a gentle hand to help clean these.
Aggie also has some little double teets.
The last few nights Aggie has managed to sleep alone which is massive progress for one so nervy.
So Agatha went off to the vets on Friday; they had been pre-warned that she is a nervous girl so they arranged for her to have the last appointment of the day.
She has started her vaccinations, flea and worming treatments; had her nails cut and was thoroughly examined. Aggie dealt with all this very well although was clearly very anxious. All the staff fell in love with her, well who wouldn’t?
The vet believes that she may have had puppies in the past, or at least a phantom pregnancy.
They also believe that little Aggie has exotropia and entropion which has led to the inflammation in her eyes. She has been prescribed some antibiotics and steroid drops which were started immediately.
Aggie will be examined by an eye specialist on the 4th September and we will be able to update further.
The most exciting news is, after having some little training sessions on a lead around her foster’s garden (bearing in mind Aggie has NEVER been on a lead walk, let alone in a car before), she managed a tiny little walk outside of the house and garden which she apparently was very brave about and seemed to enjoy.
