You will remember Bertie, the first BRNGB Hound of 2023, who joined our family in January; an elderly, blind and deaf gentleman.
Update on Bertie – Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain
We are so saddened to be sharing the news that Bertie crossed rainbow bridge on the 9th June. He spent a wonderful 5 months with his family, who not only fostered him, but loved him like their own. We knew Bertie would never leave them, but he couldn’t be adopted, so we ensured that he belonged to his foster family, in their hearts and by their name.
His mum hoped and prayed for good weather, and as soon as there was good weather Bertie was outside snuffling about and enjoying life. When the weather wasn’t so good he was inside sleeping, stealing food from the table, and being pampered by the grandchildren, who he loved dearly. He would make so much effort to get up and about when the children were near.
Sadly age and his ailments couldn’t be overcome by good weather, love and care, his life of darkness and silence is now over.
Bertie crossed the bridge peacefully, with his mum by his side.
We can’t thank Marjorie and Mike enough for giving this gent the love, courage and support they have this year. The grandchildren who loved him so gently; we are so thankful he had you for the last few months of his life, and what a last few months you gave him.
Thank you also to his supporters, without you, he wouldn’t have had this time, love and care
His final resting place, over looking the mountains in Wales, in his field he loved so much.
