Please note that these hounds are not ready for adoption. Any enquiries regarding them will go unanswered.
Pye is 9 years old and has settled really, really well into foster life. He’s playing nicely with his foster siblings.
He’s had his vet check, followed by a trip to the shops where is had great fun choosing his treats and an outdoor coat.
Pye is very skinny, and he’s being fed up slowly but surely.
The vets prescribed, steroids and antibiotics for her skin and ears; as well as ear cleaner as they really were in a sad state. If the antibiotics and cleaner do not work then we will need to have his poor ears deep cleaned.
Pye also has eye drops as his eyes were incredibly red and yukky.
He had a pedicure which he behaved so well for.
Pye will be going back to the vets this week for a follow up appointment.
He has had some surgery on his neck and back which his previous vets hadn’t got the results for so we are in contact with them to get to the bottom of what the surgery was and what future care this requires.
He will get his flea and worming up to date as well as his vaccinations as soon as the other medication has started working.
He loved everyone at the vets, so much he shared his slobber with them!
He’s had a lovely spa day with a medicated mud bath which will be a frequent occurrence until we get on top of his skin.
He really is a stunning boy.
Edward is just a few months shy of 10 years old.
He’s also doing really well in foster after a very noisy first night! These boys do like the sound of their own voices!
He’s been to the vets.
Edward has a massive amount of saggy skin which drags the ground, you’d think that weight would be a concern, however the lack of weight is a massive concern with this boy. The vets work of a scale 1-10, 10 being obese, Edward is a 3. His weight today is only 30kg; and he’s a big sized lad, just not carrying any weight.
The band of muscle around head and jawline doesn’t exist, which shows.
He needs lumps removed before they turn nasty of which there are multiple lumps. Although his heart is strong, we need to get to the bottom of his weight loss and ailments before any surgery can take place.
His ears also really dirty and require long lasting drops put in.
His eyes are damaged and have a blue hue to them BUT he still has sight. Possibly in his prime and carrying all the weight, his eyelids have been rubbing and caused damage. We need to watch for ulcers appearing and will continue treating his eyes.
His back legs not very good due to having no muscle tone; and his skin is inflamed. Because of all the extra skin, he piddles on himself as his tummy and bits are dragging along the ground. We’ve ordered him a nice coat that will hopefully keep his skin up off the ground whilst we get this cleared up.
Once we have the skin, ears and weight under control then we will be looking for his lumps and bumps to be removed.
Bertie is just a few months shy of two years old.
He’s being a star in foster, loving life with some free roaming, foster siblings to play with and he’s learning about cats, and when they bop you they mean for you to go away!
He’s also had his vet check, and his list is fairly long for such a young basset:-
He has an infection in ears, which the described as ‘rods’ type infection, which can be quite dangerous. We have a wash to use once a day to break down the protective barrier of the infection and antibiotic drops twice a day.
He has had a yeasty type infection in the folds around his mouth and edges of his ears, which will be treated with a shampoo to help with healing.
He has cysts between his paws/toes which will be treated with oral antibiotics.
He has entropion with both eyes but still has sight in both eyes. However, the way his skin falls forward prevents him from seeing, so he will need a facelift to give him his eyesight and the facelift should fix the entropion.
The vet looked at his teeth and there is some build up of calculus so we will also deal with that.
The vets opinion she would age him at 4 or 5 rather than 23 months but also said he may appear older because of previous infections.
He will be going back to the vets this week to see how the infections are reacting to the treatment and if he can be booked in for the surgery, neutering, face lift and dental.
Although he was poked, prodded and poked again, he was an absolute star!
Finally Laurence, who is just under 8 years old.
He had a very musical first night, baying and barking, however has settled in well. He loves his creature comforts and is learning what beds and sofas are for!
He’s not yet had his vet check, that is booked for this week. We’re hopeful that he’s a fit and healthy boy; but suspect there will be similar infections to ears and skin as the other boys.
Meanwhile, he’s enjoying having play mates and nice walks exploring the local countryside.
We will update further on Laurence once he’s been to the vets.
We have also been in contact with their previous owner to make sure that he is well and doing OK without his boys. ALthough he misses them terribly he knows it was the right decision.
We are grateful to everyone who donated to their wish lists, they really have made a massive difference to these boys. They’ve all had medicated bath treatments with the shampoo donated; they all have their own beds and bowls to call their own.
Because of you wonderful supporters they are getting the treatment that they need and deserve.
Thank you to their supporters and foster families.
Also thank you to Sally Taylor for the amazing donation of the basset hanging basket bracket which raised a fabulous £1000.00 towards the care of these boys. As you will see from above, that will go a little way towards their treatments and care.
If you wish to donated towards the boys you can do here. We will also be holding fundraisers for them so please do keep an eye out for these.
Thank you so much, it really does take an army to help hounds like these four.
