You will recall the lovely gent, Bertie who arrived into the BRNGB family, as the first hound of 2023, in January.
Bertie, when he came to us was believed to be 11 years old, however after a vet examination we believe he’s older than that.
Sadly this gent is blind from having eye infections and ulcers which possibly went untreated. He’s also deaf from, again possibly, untreated ear infections.
He’s very stiff on his legs and has issues with his skin.
He has steriods for his ears; pain killers for everything, medicated drops for his eyes. Despite all this, he is a wonderful gent; his foster family have grandchildren whom he adores, and sniffs them out when they arrive. His nose is something else, leave a biscuit somewhere and it will get snaffled!
He had a lovely spa day donated recently which he enjoyed, by Lisa of The Dog House – thank you so much
Bertiie loves going for a walk, he gets so excited when he realises his lead is being put on. As long as his people surround him so he can keep to their scent he waddles along quite happily, if he looses the scent, he stops until one of his people comes back him so he can follow them – not that we are saying his foster family smell of course!
He met the family’s elderly pony the other day, his nose went into over-drive with all of those smells and those on the farrier!
He really is a lovely gent, and his foster family are doing wonders with him; adapting so he knows what’s happening, who’s about, where he needs to go. They really are his angels; who else could adapt so quickly to a hound that can’t see you or hear you and is in cronic pain?
He knows to bark at the door when he needs to go outside; we assume he can feel the temperature from the door, or possibly can see differnt light sources. He loves to dig his bed up into bundles to have lots of naps!
Because of Bertie’s failing health, he will see his remaining days out with us. We will continue to pay for any medical treatment he requires.
You have already donated things that he needs, now we ask if you could donate some enriichment goodies; he loves using his nose, so we’d really like him to have some snuffle goodies, lickie mats, smelly goodies for these, as well as some salmon oil to help with his skin.
If you could donate from his list the link is below.
If you would like to donate towards Bertie’s care, the link is also below.
We are always so very grateful for all of your donations and thank you so very much, from the BRNGB team and Bertie.
