21st March 2026

Well little lady Wilma; she’s a little older than we first thought according to her chip her 5th birthday was in December just gone.

Wilma is definitely the more nervous out of her and Fred, but she is coming on in leaps and bounds.

She does have some toileting issues, she would wet and mess her bed at night in the first few weeks, although this is improving and accidents are mainly during the day now, so she’s on a “back to puppy” training and being taken out frequently. Her poor foster mum was even setting an alarm in the night to get up and take Wilma out. Poor Wilma was not a fan of being outside at night time either.

Wilma also lunge at her meals as if she had never seen food before and it would be gone in seconds. A slow feeder bowl has helped with this, and now it takes her minutes to eat instead of seconds, literally seconds!

As detailed in Fred’s update (he has his own page) we believe these two spent a lot of time outside, so possibly toileting and meal time manners were not taught 100%

At her first vet appointment she weighed 18.5KG, it was also noted that she had a slight eye and ear infection so she’s had medication for both. Her teeth may also need some attention with some possible extractions.

Spaying is not an option at the moment, as she is currently having a phantom pregnancy.

Wilma was a very good girl at the vets, and let them give her a good and thorough going over.

Wilma didn’t seem to have much energy for walks when she first arrived, although enthusiastic for them, she wasn’t interested in going too far. She’s very friendly to all she meets, especially in the local cafe.

As we said on Fred’s page, Wilma doesn’t appear to be missing him at all. Although we were told they were “bonded” they certainly haven’t been upset about being apart. Normally we would keep “bonded” pairs together and monitor how bonded they are, however, they couldn’t stay together and risk an accident litter, as they did previously when living together. The current plan is not to reunite them as they are happy finding their paws on their own.

Wilma enjoys the company of the resident hounds and will happily lay with them, or have a little play.

She’s been back at the vets since her first appointment for a check up, she put on a little weight (now 19.25KG) and the eye and ear infection has cleared on the left side, just the right side for both ear and eye still need medication. Her Spey has been booked for the end of this month, hopefully her phantom would have ended then.

As you can see from the video, she’s such a happy girl, and picking up on everything she’s being shown so well. In just a month she has made huge progress, thanks to her foster family.

Welcome to the BRNGB family, Fred & Wilma ❤️

Fred and Wilma joined us at the weekend. We don’t have a photo of them together just yet — and you’ll understand why when you read on! (Above is Wilma, below is Fred.)

Fred is around 5 years old and Wilma is 4. They are a very bonded pair and have previously had a litter together, so for now they’ve had to be separated as they are both entire. As soon as it is safe to do so, they will be reunited.

Fred is off to the vets today for his health check and to be booked in for his castration. Even once this is done, he can remain fertile for around six weeks, so their reunion won’t be happening just yet.

Wilma visited the vets yesterday. She’s a tiny little dot at just 18.5kg! The way she inhales her food is quite alarming, so she now has a slow feeder to help her. She has infections in both her eyes and ears, and medication has been prescribed. She will also need some dental work, including extractions.

Wilma can’t be spayed at the moment as she is currently experiencing a phantom pregnancy. She’ll be back at the vets in two weeks for a check-up on her eyes, ears, and to see if the phantom pregnancy has resolved.

Both dogs arrived very dirty and smelly and enjoyed a long soak in the bath — Fred’s bath water had to be changed three times! 🛁

Fred appears to be toilet trained (aside from some marking), but Wilma is struggling a little in this area at the moment.

Fred has a wish list (linked below). Wilma is currently borrowing items from her foster family, but if she needs anything further, we’ll let you know.

Both Fred and Wilma will require surgery before they can be reunited, alongside Wilma’s current medication and upcoming dental treatment. We’ll know more about Fred’s health after today’s vet visit.

However you choose to support us, we are always incredibly grateful.

Welcome to BRNGB, Fred and Wilma ❤️🐶
