Lily and Winter have now finished their assessment and are now looking for their forever home.
Please read their blog in full, including the information sheet at the end and consider whether you are a match for their needs.
We have known both girls for some time now, sadly coming back to us when their adoptive parents passed away.
Both have lived with chickens, ducks and geese previously on a small holding, and have learnt cats are friends whilst in foster, although Winter will still try and chase them to have a play.
Both have lovely natures and we believe they can live with dog savvy children, however you should consider that these girls have spent a considerable amount of their lives with quieter adult only households.
Here’s what their foster family have to say about them:-
Lily and Winter returned to foster in September 2025.
Lily is the eldest at 6 years old and has lovely lace ears, she loves to cuddle with you when sitting on the sofa, being outside either watching paragliders or geese flying overhead. Lily will sleep on your bed and won’t move until you get up!
Lily is a Typical basset when on walks loves to sniff and meet people. She has a good appetite and has to be fed separately or she will steal Winter’s food.
Lily loves to play with you with toys.
Winter is just over 2 years old and is a typical basset puppy. She is the most mischievous of the two.
Winter loves to move stuff with her nose, mainly to see if it’s edible or worth her effort to steal.
Winter also has a good appetite but is slower than Lily. She will walk away from her food to see if there is anything better on offer or stealable!
We have found out that she likes Greek yoghurt with honey, so we put that on her kibble to convince her she’s special
Winter loves everybody she meets and will try to pull to get to them when out on her lead, but can be distracted with treats. It’s just Winter wanting to share the love, there’s no aggression although she will bark and is strong on the lead. Distraction works with Winter when out and about to keep her attention.
Winter also sleeps on the bed but be aware, you may find her in the middle taking up all the space possible when you wake up.
Both has lived in foster with four cats and Cleo the parrot. The girls have taught Cleo some new expressions “leave the cat alone” and some which will remain out of print!
Both girls are fully housetrained will let you know when they need to go out.
They can be left for a couple of hours without issue and we always leave the radio on for them.
Lily can be a little grumpy at times but a stern no will suffice. She’s not bitten, just likes things her own way.
Lily will need to go to the vets for nail clipping because she hates her paws being touched. Winter will let you do them herself.
As soon as they see the ear cleaner, they are off running but do sit and let you do them.
Both are happy to get in and out of the car and travelling well.
Both girls have been a pleasure to foster, Lily is the sensible one and Winter is a typical teen, whoever is lucky enough to adopt them, fun times will be had.
Don’t be fooled that they could sit still long enough for a photoshoot, these are active girls who love having a walk, play time and a garden to relax in.
Both girls are now spayed, Winter being recently. She did suffer a little infection after the surgery but both have been signed off by the vet to be fit and healthy for adoption. Both vaccinations are due in March, so we will be looking to have these completed before adoption.
There was some concern when Winter was younger that she may need eye surgery for entropion once she was fully grown, however our foster’s vet has advised this is not necessary now she has grown into her skin.
Please consider all the information below and read our information about Adoption with our frequently asked questions.

12th November 2025
Well finally Winter has had a season and we’ve been able to get a day for her spaying, we’ve been waiting a long time for this, so maybe a little bit of a celebration was had! She will be going in just after the New Year.
Meanwhile, both girls are doing really well in foster. They love their foster dad and sulk when he is at work. Both adore to be outside, in their previous home they had a lot of open space to enjoy so we are pleased they still have this. Lily spent an hour in the garden watching paragliders, totally transfixed.
Both girls enjoy their sleep, having a nice snuggle under the duvet, or can be found twitching the curtains keeping an eye on the neighbours.
They enjoy a game of bitey face, and the poor cat gets involved in their shenanigans, whether he likes it or not, or they use him as a pillow. The resident parrots new saying is “leave the cat alone!”
Winter is happy to have her nails trimmed, although Lily is a lot more nervous so that will require a vet’s assistance. She also suffered with the recent fireworks, and spent most of the time refusing to go outside in the dark.
All in all the girls are doing really well and are continuing to thrive.
Thank you to everyone for their continued support. Once Winter’s operation has been completed, the girls will be ready for the next chapter.
If you’d like to donate to their care and Winter’s surgery the link to do so is below.

Please welcome Lily and Winter back into the BRNGB family.
Some of you may remember these beautiful girls. Lily (Lace ear) joined the family originally back in the summer of 2020, and Winter back in the summer of 2024
Both were adopted by the lovely Jan and Graham.
Sadly Jan lost her incredibly brave battle to illness early this year. Devastatingly Graham also passed away after a short illness very recently Both were huge parts of BRNGB, transporting, fostering and adopting these two beautiful girls.
Under the BRNGB adoption back up, we were contacted by Jan and Graham’s family and asked to take the girls back, in the hope that Graham would make a full recovery, sadly this was not the case.
Lily is now 6 years old and Winter is just shy of 2 years old. Both girls are very much bonded to each other and we knew they could not be split.
The girls have been back with us since the beginning of September.
They’ve had their vet check. Finally, we have been waiting for this since Winter originally joined the family, she has come into season. She was adopted by Graham and Jan under a neuter agreement and we’ve been waiting all this time! She will be spayed as soon as she can be (at least another 12 weeks). She also sadly has an ear infection which she has treatment for.
We always knew Winter may have an issue with her eyes, again Graham and Jan were waiting for her to be fully grown before a decision was made as to whether any surgery was required, under the suggestion of vets.
Lily on the other hand is perfect and is bouncing around happily.
Both girls have come back to BRNGB with open arms and they have really settled in quickly. We know Graham and Jan will be looking down on them and know that they are loved and happy.
Neither girls need a wish list, their naughty foster mum got them some new beds and bowls. However if you could donate a little to their care and Winter’s upcoming surgery we would be grateful. The link to do so is below
Thank you everyone for your continued support for not only these girls but all the Hounds in our care.
Thank you to Lily and Winter’s transport team, emergency foster and foster family – we hope this post brings some comfort to Jan and Graham’s family.
