The wonderful Betsie is looking for her forever home, and she is just the sweetest little girl you will ever meet.

Betsie must have another dog in her life.  She previously lived with another dog who sadly crossed the bridge, and Betsie missed them terribly.  Whilst in foster her foster sibling sadly also crossed the bridge, but her foster family have made sure that she has doggy company which she loves and really needs in her life.

Betsie is good with children, and we will consider homes with dog savvy children over the age of 5 years old.

Betsie’s weight has reduced in her time in foster and this really does need to be kept an eye on.  She has the sweetest little leggies so for her future comport and mobility her weight needs to be monitored.  She is currently fed Skinners Field and Trial Light and Senior with a small topping of Lilly’s Kitchen wet food and is fed twice a day.  Betsie has no food aggression at all with either dogs or humans.   She will try to investigate what another dog is eating but a simple “no” will remind her of her manners.

Betsie enjoys carrots, apples and cucumbers in her treat ball which she will happily chase around to get.

Betsie whilst with another dog will sleep downstairs happily, either in her bed, an armchair or sofa; however when she’s on the occasion been buddy-less she will sleep in her foster parent’s room, given the chance in their bed too.

Betsie is happy going up and down stairs and gets herself up on the sofa when no one is around, if you’re there, she will put the “I can’t do it help me” face.

Betsie does need help getting in and out of the car, and wasn’t a fan of using the ramp.  Betsie travels really well either in a harness strapped in on the back seat or in the booth area.

When with another dog, Betsie was fine to be left for short periods of time, but she is not a fan of being left home alone.  A TV or radio has helped this on the occasion she has been left totally alone with the run of the house and no longer than a couple of hours.  This will obviously have to be worked on in her new home and she will need to be comfortable in her new surroundings before being left.

Walks are not walks with Betsie, they are runs, she adores being out on walks but will go full Betsie speed…..this then lead to full Betsie rests mid walk.   Everyone who meets her says how happy she is, she happily says hello to everyone she meets, human or dog.  Cats however are there to be chased on walks so we do not feel that Betsie can live with cats or small furries.

Betsie is fully house trained, she doesn’t however tell you when she needs to go out, but will hold on until you realise she needs to go outside, so you do need to keep an eye on her for her signals its time to go outside.

Betsie will bark at loud noises, such as the bin lorry, letter box going.  If a door suddenly opens when she wasn’t aware of someone being there, she will bark but as soon as she sees the person, off she goes to get a toy to greet them.

Betsie isn’t a fan of the vets, she’s not aggressive at all but just isn’t a fan of being examined, having her nails clipped or ears cleaned.

Betsie loves her toys and will happily greet you with one, carry them around and play with them.  A stick or a ball is always there to be retrieved.

There are no food tolerances or allergies that we are aware of, Betsie is prone to getting interdigital cysts on her paws.  Since being with us she has had three.   They normally burst, bleed profusely and then clean up.  One was infected and needed antibiotics.  Regular cleaning with hibiscrub/water mix prevents these.  She has also had one UTI since being with us which cleared up quickly with antibiotics.

Her vaccinations are all up to date and won’t be due again until April 2027.

So apart from all of the above this is what her foster family have to say about Betsie

Betsie is a dog in a million she is so happy with life and spreads that happiness with every wag of her tail.

She loves every one and every thing she meets.

She needs a family to love and play with. Ideally another dog but could cope with a very regular visiting friend as long as humans on on hand 100% of the time; children either living with or regularly visiting, but lots of love, cuddles and treats are vital.

She is very well behaved and has no issues at all but she likes to be comfortable, if we sit on it she sits on it, even if you’re already on it.

She loves to go out for a ride in the car, loves running around a field but wouldn’t be walking up any mountains.

She enjoys a walk and gets excited, but often gets bored early and you could find her up to her waist in a muddy pond if you’re not paying attention.

When you get home she’ll be there, toy in mouth, waiting for you. Even the postman gets a toy.

She has been a joy to have in foster and we will miss her massively.

The lovely Betsie is doing so very well in foster.

She has suffered from a UTI which cleared up well as it was spotted very quickly and antibiotics were prescribed by the vet.

She has had another cyst on her foot, but again this quickly cleared up with home treatment. She needs her cute little dumpling paws bathed regularly in hibiscrub diluted with water and they must be kept clean. We believe the cysts could be pollen related and she will need her paws cleaned frequently, probably for life.

Betsie has also lost some weight, last weigh in showed just over 2KG off which is fabulous as this will help her mobility.

She adores being out and about and loves to have a run and a roll at the fredom field.

Betsie’s favourite pastime is stealing a recently vacated armchair, or just joining a human on an arm chair – a definite “if I fits I sits”

She is the most wonderful girl.

Thank you everyone for your continued support for lovely girl Betsie

Please give a huge welcome to 8-year-old Betsie, who is just the cutest little bundle. 🐶💕

Important: Betsie is currently under assessment and not ready for adoption, so please do not make enquiries regarding her adoption at this time, as these will unfortunately go unanswered.

Betsie arrived with us last weekend and has already had quite the first week in foster, including an unexpected trip to the emergency vet.

She absolutely adores people, and has already chosen her favourite human — her foster dad. Poor foster mum has been firmly placed in the “spare human” category for now! Betsie’s favourite activity is sitting on your feet… whether you need to use them or not.

After sadly losing her companion in her previous home, Betsie is really enjoying having a foster sibling to snuggle up with again.

She also loves her walks, but just like Betsie herself — they’re short and fast!

Now for that emergency vet visit.
The other night Betsie became very restless, and her foster dad stayed up with her through the night. By morning her paw had become incredibly swollen, so off to the vet they went.

During the journey, the swelling actually burst. Betsie was admitted for the day as she was completely non-weight-bearing, and the paw was so swollen and sore that the vet couldn’t properly examine it at first.

After receiving pain relief and sedation, the vet was able to take a closer look. The hole in her paw was flushed out and checked carefully for a foreign body. Thankfully there was nothing stuck inside, and Betsie was diagnosed with an interdigital cyst.

She came home the very same day sporting the cutest little bandage.

A couple of days later Betsie returned for a check-up and the vet was delighted with how well it had healed. The bandage could come off, although she still needs twice-daily bathing while it continues to recover.

Throughout everything, Betsie has remained her happy, cheerful self. She truly is a wonderful lady and an absolute joy to have in foster.

Betsie only has a very small wishlist:

• A treat ball so she can enjoy chopped veggies (which will also help her lose a little weight)
• A new bed — although Betsie does have one, she has completely fallen in love with her foster sibling’s bed and hasn’t even glanced at her own! A similar one would make her very happy.

You’ll find the link to Betsie’s wishlist below.
If you’d prefer to donate towards Betsie’s care, that link is also below, along with the link for this month’s wonderful doggy/human hamper raffle.
