Cooper has settled into foster life very well. We’d go as far as to say he has his foster family wrapped around every single one of his paws! He’s a stunning lad and just so loving.

A little while after he joined the BRNGB family it was noted that he would have a little limp every now and then; this was put down to charging around like a loon and chasing the birds in what he decided was HIS garden!

At his initial vet check, he was checked all over, deemed to be a little star and weighed 23.2KG.He was given an anti-inflammatory/pain killer injection and we were advised if no improvement an X-Ray would be needed.

The injection seemed to have worked, and Cooper once he had a few days of cuddles and rest was back ready to take on the universe…or be the centre of it, we’re not sure which.

A few days later, Cooper started giving a little yelp at random. We thought possibly Pano which wouldn’t be unusual in such a young pup having a growth spurt but his foster family were more than happy to keep a close eye on him, short, easy walks and just generally be at his beck and call.

He enjoys having a bath, and laid on his back happily when the hairdryer came out, legs akimbo to be dried!

He’s not so happy when his humans go out however and this is being worked on.

Then his limp returned earlier this month, added to this was an obvious weakness in his back end. After a vey visit with some more anti inflammatory medication it was agreed x-rays were needed, we had to get to the bottom of the source of pain.

The X-Rays were completed and we received the devastating news that Cooper is suffering with quite severe hip dysplasia. His tail was also showing evidence of an old break which has healed. As Cooper is still growing he needs joint supplements and regular, moderate exercise together with a lot of rest and calm time.

As can be seen from the X-Ray below, the hip joint on the right is not sitting correctly in the socket. As can be seen from the vet report, as Cooper is still growing the plan is to control his exercise, undergo physiotherapy/hydrotherapy and then once he is fully grown reassess the situation. We are waiting for the referral for the therapy sessions.

We will of course keep you updated on Cooper’s progress. Rest assured he will get all the treatment he needs and requires.

He continues to be a wonderful boy despite these issues, such a loving, cuddly, happy go lucky, cheeky buffoon really!

Thank you to all of Cooper’s supporters in his journey and for reading his story.
