It’s that time of year again when we ask you wonderful people to give up your Friday treat, be that a takeaway coffee, chocolate bar, sneaky cake, a beer after work, a takeaway, a little G&T.

COFFEE FOR BASSETS has been running since 2018 and it is one of our most important fundraisers, especially over the COVID years when we couldn’t have gatherings or parties.
Since 2018, this one day of the year has raised a fabulous £18,456.20. Which sounds amazing, and it really is….until we tell you since the 17th December 2024 to the 17th April 2025 (5 months) we have spent £27,028.44 on the hounds in our care.
So far this year we have had 17 hounds surrendered to us, and we’re only on week 18. It may not sound like a lot compared to some rescue charities, but we are breed specific. We only accept basset hounds. How many of you get told when you’re out walking your beautiful Hounds “oh you don’t see many of them anymore”, so 17 within 18 weeks is a lot. But we will never turn a hound down, be that accepting them into our family, helping them with advice to stay with their own family.
We hope you appreciate how important fundraising is for us. We are a registered charity which relies purely on donations, none of our volunteers are paid, no payment for anything, not even mobile phones and WI-FI are paid by the charity. Every single penny donated goes to the hounds and the hounds only. Our accounts are published yearly for all to see.
SO HOW DOES COFFEE FOR BASSETS WORK?
On Friday 30th May 2025 we ask you to donate the price of your Friday treat. It could be a 59p chocolate bar (can you get a chocolate bar for that price anymore?) or it could be your 3 course Friday night takeaway! You leave the treat on the shelf and send us the cost of this instead so we can all continue to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome these beautiful Hounds.
