Please welcome Bear into the BRNGB family.
10 year old Bear arrived on Friday, and is under assessment. Please do not make any enquiries regarding the adoption of Bear as they will go unanswered.
Sadly Bear joined us after his human was taken very poorly and the family cannot care for Bear.
Considering he was home alone for a couple of days before he joined us, he’s a happy boy and has settled into his foster home very well. He has a bagel for company, and both are happily sharing their space and being very good on not being on top of each other.
Bear’s first night was brilliant, he put himself to bed in the lounge and there he stayed without a peep until his foster mum got up.
As you will see from the photos, Bear does have very inflamed skin.
He’s already had his vet check as he’s very itchy and sore and we want to get started on his treatment as soon as possible.
The vet was concerned about his skin and ears, although fairly certain this is yeast rather than an infection, swabs were taken from both his ears and skin and the results will be back on Monday.
Bear requires Malasab bath every other day for his skin which has been prescribed by the vet.
His ears need a real good clean, and Ocedine has been prescribed, and this is to be used every day.
Steroids have also been prescribed to help sooth his itchy skin, and he’s to have four a day. Antibiotics have not been prescribed as the vet is fairly certain this is yeast rather than bacterial. Once we have the swab results back, and if needed we will collect some Antibiotics for him.
Bear doesn’t particularly like being handled and can be grumpy, although he’s polite grumpy, with huffing and puffing and a little growl. He is happy to have a muzzle on and this was used at the vet. He did grump a little, so the vet didn’t push him too hard and have a proper look at his teeth, but from what we have seen a dental will be needed in the future.
Prior to Bear’s arrival we had already placed an order for specialist food, we knew that he would need this to help his skin. The vet was happy with the food choice.
Bear doesn’t like being picked up, so a ramp would be really helpful for him. He doesn’t need a wishlist, but if you would like to donate towards his food and towards a ramp that would be really helpful. Obviously the ramp would stay with Bear to his forever home.
