Claude

Male

7 years old

Located Hampshire

Claude is a very loving, human sociable hound.  He loves nothing more than a cuddle and a fuss.

Claude has been with BRNGB for exactly 10 weeks for his assessment and is now ready for his forever home.  Could it be you?

Claude sleeps on the sofa at night, and will happily jump down when told it’s bed time peepee time.  He will jump onto the back seat of the car and will sit nicely strapped in on car journeys.

He used to live with small humans and appears to love children, although we will not adopt to families with children under 5 years old.

He is nervous of the vet and really does need reassurance, he is not aggressive just fearful.  He has been sedated for his nail trim but takes the tablet quite happily wrapped in a piece of ham.

Claude does react to bigger dogs when out walking, he will lunge, but this is avoided by simply keeping his attention and crossing the road.  BRNGB will of course offer full rescue back up and assistance to ensure that Claude continues to improve with this, with only positive reinforcement methods.

Claude does suffer with separation anxiety, his foster family are working on this and they can leave the house for a few minutes, again full rescue back up and assistance will be offered to continue working with Claude in this respect.  Claude really does love his humans so ideally he needs someone home most of the time.

Claude happily leaves items that he may have stolen when asked to leave.  Loves his treats and food.

He is unsure of cats and will chase them when out walking so no small furries for this boy in the home.  We do think he may be best being a solo dog in the home as he does love his humans and having one on one time.

Claude is fully housetrained, if the doors are closed he will go to the door and wait for it to be opened and he sleeps all night. He didn’t react the the recent storms so seems happy with sudden noises.

Here’s what his foster family say:-

When Claude arrived he was a little scared and hyper and seemed to flinch when he thought he had done something wrong but he very soon settled into our family routine.

He loves to curl up beside you on the sofa for cuddles, loves his walks he is walked minimum of twice a day and is good on the lead (apart with larger dogs).

Travels well in the car and will happily jump in. He sleeps all night on the sofa.

As above he does suffer Separation Anxiety which is a work in progress and has significantly improved in his time in foster.

He also has thickening of the right ventricle in his heart but no surgery or medication is needed the vet thinks he has had it from birth and to look at him walk play and jump around you wouldn’t know.  We are happy with the diagnosis that no further medical intervention is required, and will discuss this issue with Claude’s new family.

Claude needs someone who is at home more often than not and prepared to put in the time to help him settle and learn further

  • Someone who is prepared to work with on going training with larger dogs and separation anxiety, using only positive reinforcement methods. BRNGB will be able to assist with this. We do not agree with any negative training methods.
  • Someone who is willing to work with Claude and his separation anxiety and be patient whilst he gets to know you and his new home
  • A pet free home
  • Claude loves a walk, and needs physical and mental stimulation, as well as further training with larger dogs, again we are happy to provide assistance.
  • Patience and time to spend with Claude in the crucial first few weeks as he adapts
  • No small furies, birds, cats……
  • We do not adopt to households with children under the age of 5.
  • Applications close on the 31st July 2022 at 8pm.

Taking on a rescue dog is not the easy option. You need to be prepared to help a confused and troubled hound find their place in your family. They have been through a massive upheaval and will need time to settle into a new way of life, so please consider this BEFORE you fill in an application.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Claude is subject to an adoption fee and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family will need to be able to travel to his foster home to meet him and his foster family.

You will also have a telephone call with a member of the team, plus Claud’s foster family, so that all of his history can be shared with you in person, and that we can be assured that you can fill all of his needs and requirements.

Claude comes with 5 weeks free insurance via our rehoming partner, Agria.

Claude as with all of our hounds will have full rescue back up for life.
