Is there a better day to announce that Holly has found her very own new home and has been there for a couple of weeks now.
Early reports are that she has settled in well and it’s like she has been there all her life.
She’s enjoying being the centre of attention, her walks and, the best bit, her new family didn’t flinch when they were advised their bed will be Holly’s new bed!
Congratulations lovely girl, we just know you are going to be so very happy.

We are so pleased to say that Holly had some lovely Applications, one in particular stood out.
They have been home checked and they have met Holly, who will be going to her forever home soon.
We are so excited that Holly will be getting her “Pink Sofa” very soon.

Holly joined us in August for her foster assessment where she has proved to be a lovely lady.
She celebrated her 13th birthday with us, with cake of course!
Holly has previously lived with other dogs, children and cats. Currently she is in foster with cats and a rabbit with no other dogs. There had been an issue between Holly and a smaller dog with her original family where she had snapped at this one particular dog. There seemed to be no apparent trigger for this, and although there was no bite the harmony in the home had changed.
Holly originally lived with another basset, however when he passed away Holly became sad and missed having doggy company so she stayed with extended family where the smaller dog was.
Holly is excited to meet other dogs when out and about and will try to play in typical basset fashion, so maybe the smaller dog wasn’t able to play in the way Holly wanted which caused the snap?
We would consider a home with children for Holly, she has been children of all ages throughout her life.
We would also consider a home with cats and small furies.
We are torn as to whether Holly would like a resident dog , if there is one we believe they should be equal in size and of similar age so Holly is on equal footing. Holly will also push her way to the front if another dog is having a fuss, she likes the attention and fussing all to herself. At her age we believe that she should have all of the attention so we will be considering dog free homes over ones with resident dogs, but resident dogs will be considered as long as the applicant is aware of the previous issues with dogs and potential issues going forward.
If there is no resident dog, Holly will need her humans around for most of the time. She can be left for short periods, and will initially bark but this soon settles. In her original home it was reported up to 4 hours, but this will need to be worked up to.
Holly has been a day grazer in foster when it comes to her food, she will have a nibble every now and then so her food has been left down for her. Obviously this won’t work if there are other resident dogs; previously Holy has been fed separately to the other dogs in her previous home, she doesn’t like to share her food or space when eating.
Do not be put off by Holly’s age, on her arrival she had her health check and was given a clean bill of health. Although she wasn’t a fan of the vet and just laid on the floor grumbling at him. We believe some happy, positive visits to the vet will help as her previous family reported no issues with vet visits, but she certainly didn’t like her foster vet!
Holly is active, and loves her walks as you will see from the videos, so don’t think she’s an old girl who will just want to sleep all the time!

Holly came to stay on the 4th August 2024.
She’s a lovely tricoloured girl and very spotty She has recently turned 13, but don’t be fooled by this girl, she acts like a 5 year old!
Initially very scared when she first came, but has since blossomed. She loves the cats will happily sleep with them and eat their food!
Holly loves her food will take all day to eat it. She likes to see what the cats or you have but in general she’s finished her own all day meal by 6pm.
She is fully housetrained will let you know when she needs to go out.
Is very unsure and scared at the vets but given reassurance she’s fine.
Likes to go out walking and the weather doesn’t bother her. She is fine with fireworks and thunder storms with no problems.
Holly walks fab on the lead or harness but when walking she bounces like a kangaroo.
Holly likes to go bed with you and sleeps on your bed, she doesn’t move all night will get up with you.
Holly can bark when left alone but only for 5 minutes. We leave the radio on and give her a treat. The welcome when you have come home is second to none.
Holly has been the only dog whilst here.so maybe she would still benefit from this as long as she has humans with her all the time, she gives the most fantastic cuddles. She will follow you everywhere .
Holly is a little wary of large dogs when out, but is okay will small ones outside the house.
So if anyone has a Holly shaped hole in their lives give this girl a chance you won’t be disappointed

– Someone who will be around most of the time in the initial few weeks whilst Holly settles in
– Applications with resident dogs will be considered but we believe Holly would be happier as an only dog with her new humans all to herself

Holly has been fairly unsettled since arriving, which is understandable for a girl of her age. Ech day she is getting better.
She loves her walks which is fabulous at her age.
She has been to the vets; Holly’s health check was good. The vet was very happy with her good condition, her heart is nice and strong. Her weight is 20.6kg which is just perfect for her.
Her vaccinations will be done in a couple of weeks. She was so scared she just laid on the floor so her foster mum didn’t want to push it and make this a nice visit for her.

Holly is learning about cats and has been a little unsettled the last few days, which is to be expected. Everything will happen at Holly’s speed and she is showing signs of understanding that she is safe and will be looked after.
