Cooper has celebrated his first birthday!  He had such an amazing day, was totally spoilt with presents, party hats and so many cuddles!

He’s a stunning boy, not just to look at but his personality as well.

He’s still having hydrotherapy, at the moment a couple of sessions a week.  He adores going and is doing really well.  We will be getting another balance test soon to see how the therapy is helping him.

He’s had a few off days, where he’s been aching, so excercise is limited at times, he’ll have a break from the therapy, and then once his aches and pains have passed he’s backon form.

This beautiful boy needs all the chances and options we can give him.  To be so young with his whole life ahead of him we will ensure he gets everything he needs.

We thought you’d like an update on young lad Cooper.

You’ll recall that Cooper has quite significant hip dysplasia which needs therapy until he is fully grown, then a decision can be made whether he requires surgery or not.

Cooper has started on YouMove to help support his joints. His walks are kept controlled and relaxed so he doesn’t over stress his joints. Cooper has also started, and loves, hydrotherapy.

As you can see from the photos, Cooper loves his new Aunty Cathy of Peak District Canine Hydrotherapy, and we think he’s decided the hydro is just an excuse to get more cuddles and love!

Cooper has had 2 sessions so far and is doing really well with this. It’s too early to see a difference at this stage but he does everything that is required of him, in between smooches!

It has been suggested that Cooper has his stance analysed as this would then show us what his current weight distribution on each limb is. This can then be repeated in a few months time so any improvement or changes can be monitored. Cooper’s foster mum is in the process of arranging this.

Each Hydrotherapy session costs £40.00 and Cathy will invoice us every 5 sessions and will keep us updated with reports. We are sure you will agree this is best for Cooper and his future, hopefully we will be able to avoid any future surgery.

If you would like to donate to Cooper’s hydro sessions there is a link below to do so, or you can purchase a raffle ticket for £5.00 to be in with the chance of winning this amazing Wrendale dog walking bag bundle, which includes a bag, treat pouch and poop bag holder emblazoned with dogs of all breeds, of course including bassets.

23rd March 2025

Cooper has settled into foster life very well.  We’d go as far as to say he has his foster family wrapped around every single one of his paws!   He’s a stunning lad and just so loving.

A little while after he joined the BRNGB family it was noted that he would have a little limp every now and then; this was put down to charging around like a loon and chasing the birds in what he decided was HIS garden!

At his initial vet check, he was checked all over, deemed to be a little star and weighed 23.2KG.  He was given an anti-inflammatory/pain killer injection and we were advised if no improvement an X-Ray would be needed.

The injection seemed to have worked, and Cooper once he had a few days of cuddles and rest was back ready to take on the universe…or be the centre of it, we’re not sure which.

A few days later, Cooper started giving a little yelp at random.  We thought possibly Pano which wouldn’t be unusual in such a young pup having a growth spurt but his foster family were more than happy to keep a close eye on him, short, easy walks and just generally be at his beck and call.

He enjoys having a bath, and laid on his back happily when the hairdryer came out, legs akimbo to be dried!

He’s not so happy when his humans go out however and this is being worked on.

Then his limp returned earlier this month, added to this was an obvious weakness in his back end.  After a vey visit with some more anti inflammatory medication it was agreed x-rays were needed, we had to get to the bottom of the source of pain.

The X-Rays were completed and we received the devastating news that Cooper is suffering with quite severe hip dysplasia.  His tail was also showing evidence of an old break which has healed.  As Cooper is still growing he needs joint supplements and regular, moderate exercise together with a lot of rest and calm time.

As can be seen from the X-Ray below, the hip joint on the right is not sitting correctly in the socket.  As can be seen from the vet report, as Cooper is still growing the plan is to control his exercise, undergo physiotherapy/hydrotherapy and then once he is fully grown reassess the situation.  We are waiting for the referral for the therapy sessions.

We will of course keep you updated on Cooper’s progress.  Rest assured he will get all the treatment he needs and requires.

He continues to be a wonderful boy despite these issues, such a loving, cuddly, happy go lucky, cheeky buffoon really!

Thank you to all of Cooper’s supporters in his journey and for reading his story.

18th January 2025

Cooper arrived in the BRNGB family today.  He’s a stunning lad who reminds us all of Agnes, the stray girl who you all named.

Cooper is under assessment and is not ready to be adopted, any applications will go unanswered.

Cooper is 9 months old and has been surrendered to us by his loving family when circumstances changed for them all.   He’s a true credit to them as he is proving, so far, what a lovely lad he is.

He was a dream for our transport team and has had a little mooch around the village where his foster parents live, and as you can see, settled down for a post mooch / pre dinner snooze.

Cooper will be having his vet check in the next few days and we will keep you updated as to how he is getting on.

If you would like to donate to Cooper’s care the link is below.  At present he doesn’t need a wish list but we’ll let you know if that changes.

Welcome to the family Cooper.
