Huge congratulations to Bolt who was adopted recently.

We are so pleased he’s found his forever home.  He has a hound sibling he can mooch around with and they really did seem to be quite happy in each other’s company.

Thank you so much to Bolt’s foster families, he did move due to his seperation anxiety and had a wonderful time with all the fabulous volunteers, including his transporters!

Thank you also to all of our supporters who made it possible for Bolt to have all the treatment he needed, teeth out, biopsies on lumps and bumps and general vet care.

Well done Bolt, we look forward to hearing about your adventures.

7th September 2024

Do not be put off by Bolt’s age, he’s a wonderful older gent who is a joy to be around, loves his food and walks as well as play time.

Bolt came to us in July 2024 after his owner, who had him from a puppy, was unable to continue caring for him.

Bolt used to live with a Jack Russell, and has been in foster with 3 other bassets and a German Shepherd.  He’s happy within a pack, but we think he would be happy as a companion for another older basset as sometimes the pack, who are younger than him, can get a bit overwhelming for him.  Although he likes to play he doesn’t like it being too rough and tumble.

Whilst in foster with us, Bolt has had some teeth removed, he had an ear infection which has cleared up now, although his ears will continue to need frequent cleaning.  His claws were cut, which he wasn’t too impressed with!  His quicks are long so will need frequent clipping, to try to get them down a bit.  Bolt also had some lumps and bumps checked, all were fine.  Bolt was also having pain killer as we think he was a little stiff on his back legs, not that stops him climbing on the sofa and beds!

Bolt was left for up to 4 hours with his previous owners; whilst in foster he initially would bark and make a lot of noise, which is understandable being somewhere new.  Since then he has been left for a couple of hours with the pack and no issues were reported.  He will need to feel settled before being left, and ideally with another hound to keep him company.

He will initially bark at other dogs when out walking but once they’re up close he wants to sniff and say hello.  Same as with people, he likes to get to know strangers on his terms and is friendly with all once he’s investigated you.

He hasn’t reacted to cats when out walking, although he has not lived with a cat.

Any children he’s met he’s been happy with.

Bolt has been a little grumbly when woken up from his sleep, he will grumble with a little growl but nothing more.  To be fair we’d be the same if we were woken up!

Here’s what his foster family have to say about him:-

BOLT’S NEEDS

Someone who will be home ost of the time in the initial weeks until Bolt is confident in his new home

A resident hound of a similar age or a calmer younger hound

Any resident cat would need to be dog savvy as Bolt has not lived with cats before but ignores them when out on walks

Any resident children over 6 years old and need to understand Bolt needs his space and peace when sleeping

Someone who will be willing to help Bolt settle in and not rush being left alone

Someone who is more than willing to be Bolt’s cuddle partner

21st July 2024

Please give a big BRNGB welcome to this wonderful gent who is Bolt.  Bolt is a fabulous 10 years of age and arrived with us yesterday.

Bolt is under assessment, please do not make any enquiries regarding his adoption, any applications will go un-answered.

As with all of our hounds, Bolt will be having a full vet check in the next few days.  His claws definitely need some attention and he will undergo a full examination.

Sadly Bolt’s owner was unable to continue caring for him; he was very much loved, and we will continue to love him and make sure he gets everything he needs to continue on his journey.

We will of course keep you updated; Bolt didn’t have many belongings, so we have a wish list on our “latest news page”.  If the list is empty then his wishes have been granted.  If you would rather donate towards Bolt’s care, and the care of the other hounds in foster there is also a link on our “support BRNGB” page

Thank you to Bolt’s transport team who took such great care of him, as well as the compassion shown to his owner upon collection.

Thank you as always for your support.
