What can we say about Becky?  Since joining her foster family she has settled amazingly, she is more settled, so much so we believe that all previous thoughts of dementia have been cancelled out and we believe that her first few weeks with us she was  deep in grief.

The cloud of grief has left Becky and her confidence and love of her foster family has shone through.

Not only has her foster family healed Becky but she has helped them in their grief after losing one of their beloved hounds.

As you will know Becky was blogged and a meet and greet was in the process of being arranged.  When Becky’s potential adopters found out how much Becky had settled and changed since their application had been received; and that she was being an amazing healing presence after losing her foster sibling, they immediately, and selflessly said that Becky should stay where she is.  Becky’s foster family jumped at the chance of her staying with them; so we have the fabulous news that Becky has been adopted by her foster family who love her dearly.

A huge thank you to Becky’s potential adopters for putting Becky’s needs first, it was one of the most selfless acts we have experienced and you will never know how grateful Becky’s new family are.

A big thank you as well to Becky’s first temporary foster family for helping Becky start her foster journey, all of her supporters, donators and volunteers.

The love that Becky has been surrounded with since joining us has been amazing.

Have a fabulous life little Becky

9th October 2024

Becky is a 12 Year old basset fauve de bretagne.

Her last weigh in at the vet was 14.3KG.  The vet was pleased with her health.

Becky joined us after her mum passed away, and since she has been in her care she has slowly been coming out of her grief and showing signs of being more confident.

Although she is currently living with two other hounds, she is not interested in forming a bond with them, she is more a human contact girl, and that seems to be when she is at her happiest.

Originally when she arrived, she would take herself off to the sofa or a bed and curl up on her own and sleep.  She didn’t want to interact with either hound or human.  Her grief was really strong.  Now she will follow her foster mum around and settle near by or have a snuggle with her.  She is getting more confident with foster dad and will have a little bum wiggle for a fuss.

Becky will settle down well for the night and sleeps all night without a peep.

She is house trained and will let you know when she needs to go out.

Becky will be due her vaccinations after her adoption.  We haven’t completed these as they are not due yet, but BRNGB will of course settle the vet bill for this with her new family.

Ideally Becky would be an only dog in the home,  she’s not interested in playing with other dogs or forming a bond with them.  What she needs is her own family that will let her settle and come to them for a fuss when she is ready.  She loves one on one time with humans.

She can live with children, although we think a busy young family home would be too much for her.  She can also live with small furies.

Here’s what her foster mum has to say:-

She is the most perfect house guest who loves everyone she meets and happily lives with my two old dogs and four chickens, she has not got an angry bone in her body.

What Becky would love is to replace her mum she lost and absolutely adored.

She would happily live with a man as well and even be pleased to see them sometimes but her mum is everything.

Becky is good on the lead with no pulling and happily sniffles around saying hello to anyone that stops, hound or human, you can take this dog anywhere and know she would be no problem at all.

She doesn’t mind being left for short periods but is very happy to see you return.

She’s a quiet dog who loves nothing more than to curl up and sleep, but at the same time is inquisitive and is happy to mooch around the garden for ages.

Becky is an older dog and showing some signs of this, her hearing is not good and she is showing some signs of dementia but this is only mild.  The signs we have seen are Becky will sometimes “zone out” and will star at one particular spot for a time, normally a wall.

Becky loves her food, but unlike any basset we’ve had is not food driven and regularly has to be reminded it’s breakfast or dinner time.  Becky is fed raw food, and this is the only thing she has shown any real interest in.

Becky is one of the sweetest dogs we’ve had and everyone we meet in the street loves her.

All she needs is a home that she can love back.

Becky needs:-

– A family of her own who will let her settle in at her pace

– Someone who is around most of the time in the early stages to help Becky settle

– Someone who will be around most of the time for Becky– Becky has been left for only a couple of hours

– Someone who will spend time to form the bond that Becky so desperately needs, but isn’t sure how to form

– Someone who understands that Becky is still grieving and will need time and patience to settle into her new home

– Becky can live with children, but a quieter, slower paced home would be preferable

– Someone who will take Becky on adventures, she may want a slower life but she loves being outside meeting other dogs and humans

– Becky can live with small furies

Please give a big BRNGB welcome to Becky who joined the family yesterday.

Becky is under assessment at this time so please do not make any enquiries regarding her adoption as these will go unanswered.

Becky is a Fauve Basset and is 12 years old.  Although an older girl, she is fairly active and loves to have a good mooch and a sniff on her walks.

Her family surrendered her after a recent bereavement, our sincere condolences go to her family at this difficult time.

Becky is reportedly a stealth stealer of what she likes the look of and has no qualms of wandering past a dog and taking what it may have.  She’s not aggresssive and is incredibly calming around all dogs and people.

She’s happy to be left in her own company and will take herself off to have a snooze.

We will update on Becky as we get to know this wonderful little lady.

If you would like to donate to Becky’s care whilst she is with us, the link is below.  She doesn’t require a wish list at this time.

Thank you to her transporters who took such good care of Becky yesterday.
