How could we not have updated you on this wonderful boy since June?
Barry has been loving life, his eyes have healed amazingly. It was a long road for him but he’s doing very very well.
Barry’s foster family totally fell in love with him, well who wouldn’t?
He has lots of visitors including lots of basset play mates come to see him and is just the perfect host.
We are so very pleased to announce that Barry will be staying with his foster family who really have gone above and beyond with him, getting him to eye specialists and helping him heal.
Congratulations Barry, you really have the best home.
Update June 2024
We are really pleased to report that Barry is healing well, he’s still under the care of his local vet who checks up on him and then if there are any concerns they consult with the eye specialist. This saves Barry the trauma of travelling 4 hours to see the specialist.
We are so pleased that healing is going well. His eyes are not showing any signs of inflamation any more but stll require cleaning as well as drops. Everyone is very positive that this won’t be for much longer.
The surgery is extensive, and can be brutal looking, but a short recovery, a lot of love and care is most definately worth it to save this wonderful older gent’s eyesight (what he still has) and to ensure he has a pain free life.
We are very grateful to his foster family who are taking wonderful care of Barry and also their nearest and dearest for helping with getting Barry to appointments, some hounds really do need a village.
Update 3rd April 2024
Well Barry has been with us for a few weeks now and is such a wonderful chap.
He makes his feelings known about 9.30pm that it is time to retire, and if he is then everyone needs to be going to bed.
He loves a game of bitey face, and has plenty of basset company as can be seen from his Gallery photos below.
Barry has a large bony lump about 2 inches from the base of his tail, presumably a break and a rather jagged edge to the right ear but neither trouble him and from the start his foster family have felt there is no alteration required and the vet certianly isn’t concerned.
Barry’s main concern is his eyes. At his last vey check mind March, it was noted that his eye pressure is slightly improved with the steroidal drops but still poor. The vet has suggested Barry finishes off the remaing few drops and then use non steroidal drops which the will prescribe, with his foster family washing the eyes with warm boiled water 3 times a day. A further check up will take place soon and we are hopeful that we can savev Barry’s eyes.
Barry wasn’t a fan of having his nails cut when he was at the vets and put up a real struggle; there’s no malice in him at all, just a dislike to his feet being touched, so he will have these done under sedation.
He’s lost a little weight and is happy to snuggle down with his foster sibling when the humans need to pop out for a few hours. He will search humans out when he wants some attention and comfort.
All in all Barry is doing so well and is a delight and a wonderful friend to all he meets
8th February 2024
Barry joined the BRNGB family last weekend and is proving to be a real gent.
He has partial sight but that really doens’t stop him getting about and doing what bassets do.
Barry has been to the vets for a checkup. There are some areas of concern, but we will make sure he gets all the care he needs
There is a slight inflamtion on his cloudy eye, specific eye drops have been ordered and shall see eye vet in 2 weeks time to see if helped any.
He is yeasty under his chin and neck so we’re starting a malaseb treatment
Barry does need to lose weight, this can be done by cutting down the amount of food and treats he has. He does enhoy his food!
He has two lumps appear to be harmless cysts but we’ll keep an eye on these.
Barry does have a slight heart murmur which could be heard by the vet so this will be assessed .
He does enjoy his walks bless him!
