Please can we all celebrate Barney.

A confused boy who arrived with us under emergency circumstances at the end of January.

He was scared with a coping mechanism of react and ask questions later.

He needed a specific foster and a specific home who could work with him and adapt their life to his world whilst he learnt he was safe.

He was placed in emergency foster for a couple of weeks.  We are so grateful to that family who helped us understand Barney’s needs and requirements.  Barney then moved to his foster family who enlisted a behaviourist and took many, many steps to change things in their home to help Barney adapt to the world he was now in.

Barney even managed to go on holiday which was a huge step.

So the celebration? Barney has been adopted by his foster family.  We are so very pleased.  Barney feels safe and loved with them.  He is settled and comfortable.  We were concerned another move would upset him and set him back in his progress.

So congratulations Barney, we couldn’t have hoped for a better outcome for you.

A huge thank you to Barney’s first foster family, you played a massive part in his journey, you dropped everything to get him safe.  Thank you to his transport angels, his supporters and well wishers.

We know you will continue to thrive.  Such a lucky boy.

Well Barney needs and deserves the biggest celebration of all the hounds.  As you will read below he’s a complex lad.  He came into us as a young, immature, very frightened hound who was on the cusp of being put to sleep becuase of his behaviour.

His first emergency foster family worked hard with him to help him feel safe and loved.

His second foster family have worked even harder with him.  Changed their home to accommodate him, and enrolled the assistance of a fabulous beaviourist.

The end result?  Barney is so happy.  So loved.  So content.  The foster home’s front door can now be used.  He doesn’t have a melt down into a dangerous frenzie when the doorbll goes now.  They have even managed to take him on a short holiday.  This was a huge step as we didn’t know if a new environment would trigger Barney’s previous behaviours.  We are pleased to say it didn’t.  He was a super star!

Barney we are so very vry proud of you, and the whole village it has taken to get you here.

5th April 2025

Barney continues to be a complex lad, however he has come on in leaps and bounds.  He still has his triggers and his quirks, but we are so very very impressed, proud and amazed at his progress.

Barney enjoys playing with his foster siblings, and is very needy when it comes to human attention.

Barney’s foster family have worked so incredibly hard with Barney and a wonderful behaviourist trainer, Nikky from Affinity Dog Behaviour Therapy and Training.

Not only have the humans been working hard, but Barney has excelled and his reports are glowing.

Barney was recently castrated, and the vets were able to accommodate his fear needs so he was calm, and even enjoyed a fuss.

Work is still on going with Barney’s mouthing to get attention.  Strategies have been put in place so although he is being taught this behaviour is not acceptable, he will get the engagement he craves so much once he has stopped demanding it.

Barney’s fear reaction when out on walks are also being worked on and slowly there is an improvement.

Barney’s biggest fear and the biggest trigger since he has been with us is when someone comes to the front door.  Barney would react with a degree of aggression when someone was at the door.  Barney’s foster family have been fabulous with this, using signs on their door so people don’t knock or ring whilst desensitising is being worked on.  Barney is improving in this area and enjoys his “step” training which will progress in Barney’s time to the door actually being used.

We are so very grateful to Nikky the trainer, who has worked so well alongside Barney’s foster family.  The foster family who really have gone above and beyond for this lad, to make him feel safe, to read his signals, to understanding his needs and making sure he feels safe, loved and involved; taking everything at his pace so not to overwhelm him, thank you so very very much.

To everyone who has donated towards Barney’s care, this is where your donations go.  To ensure Barney is learning, safe, and understands the world he is in.  A massive commitment by all, thank you so much.

9th February 2025

You may recall young Barney joined us as an emergency at the end of January.   Because of the nature of his surrender things moved very quickly and Barney spent the last 2 weeks in emergency foster whilst we could place him with a permanent foster.

Those first 2 weeks have been a huge insight into Barney.  It was a difficult road for his foster family who we are incredibly grateful to for their assistance with this young lad.

We know some of Barney’s background; we do believe that events from his past have led to fear behaviours arising in certain situations.  Those two weeks gave us an insight into Barney’s triggers and have enabled us to place him with a foster home who has experience of these behaviours so we can help Barney.

We will also be seeking the help of external, positive reinforcement behaviour trainer.

For a hound to be so young, who is such a loving boy, to have such fear is a crying shame but we will do our best for him and we know you will all support us in his journey.

Barney’s wishlist was not delivered.  We have spoken to Amazon and they have assured us that refunds have been given to those of you who donated to his wish list.  If you have not received a refund please do contact Amazon.  We are unable to assist you with this as it all comes from your account.

As such Barney’s wishlist is open again.  If you are able to donate to this we would be grateful.  As it stands Barney has nothing, he spent the last couple of weeks in borrowed items so getting his own things is a huge priority.

If you would like to donate towards Barney’s care including his behaviourist the link to do so is below, please where you can add giftaid as this will increase your donation.

Thank you so much to Barney’s initial foster family, his transport team and all of his supporters.  We fear it may be a long, tricky road for this lad, but we will do everything we can for him

26th January 2025

Please welcome 13 month old Barney who joined the family this week end.

Please note Barney is under assessment, any applications for him will go unanswered and will have to be re-submitted once he is fully assessed and ready to be adopted.

Barney is the fifth Hound to join us this month and is showing himself to be a lovely boy.

We were contacted by a third party to help Barney urgently, we had a transporter and foster near by who were able to go and collect this lovely boy.

He’s proving to be very playful, happy to be with other hounds and enjoy snuggles.

Barney will be having a full vet check and a full assessment.  We will of course keep you updated on his progress.

Barney came with no belongings, his foster family have lots of spares, but he does need his own harness, collar, lead and some treats and toys to welcome him into the family.

If you are able to donate, the link for his wish list is below.  If you would rather donate towards Barney’s care the link for donations, and the link for this months fabulous raffle for a doggy hamper and human afternoon tea is also below.

Thank you everyone
