Fergie and Sully are looking for their forever home as a pair.

Fergie and Sully Are both currently eating Purina Pro Plan dry food for sensitive skin, and we recommend that they both remain on this food. Fergie also gets a bit of an upset tummy when fed on anything not grain free.

All food and long lasting treats are to be fed separately, as although these two are happy as a pair, there is significant food aggression between them and being fed together invites spats between them.

They do like to have a snuggle up together on a night-time and do share the same bed.

Both Fergie and Sully will use a ramp to get in and out of the car. They are more than happy in a crate in the back of the car together going out and about.

Neither Fergie or Sully have separation anxiety since being in foster, however they are not happy if one goes on a adventure without the other, so if one has a vet appointment, the other goes along for the ride!

Sully can be a little funny with other dogs on walks, nothing aggressive, just a bark and pulling towards them. Sully is walked with a Halti collar which with continued training and confidence the pulling should ease over time. Sully is not particularly confident with other dogs. Fergie walks really well on lead and is definitely the more confident with other dogs when out and about

Both can be shy around new people and it does take some time for them to trust and come for a fuss.

They are both house trained and will look at the door when they need to go out.

Children are a no go with these two hounds, as we feel they would get overwhelmed with children around them so we are seeking a home with older children, no under 16’s for these two.

They both also have a high prey drive and will chase and bark at cats, so no small furries in their forever home either.

Sully is very nervous at the vets, but is polite. Both have had their nails cut and ears cleaned without any issue. Fergie has no concerns with the vet.

Both love a chase around the garden or freedom field mixed in with a game of bitey face

Sully was neutered in June and made a good recovery from his surgery as well as the issues with his tonsils (see below). Fergie was already neutered before he come into BRNGB.

Both have been signed off by their vet, and have had their vaccinations in May 2026.

As they are a bonded pair they are happy with each other, they can live with other dogs but consider whether a bonded pair would upset your own environment
No small furriers
No children under the age of 16
Someone who is home a lot of the time to help Fergie and Sully settle in
Consideration to their diet must be considered
Not to be left for more than 4 hours at a time, and in the early days to build up to this gently
A family who will continue to build up Sully’s confidence
A family who will involve Fergie and Sully in all their fun activities

Taking on a rescue dog is not the easy option. You need to be prepared to help a confused and troubled hound find their place in your family. They have been through a massive upheaval and will need time to settle into a new way of life, so please consider this BEFORE you fill in an application.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Fergie and Sully are subject to an adoption fee of £450.00 and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family including all dogs will need to be able to travel to their foster home to meet Fergie and Sully and their foster family.
You will also have a telephone call with a member of the team, plus their foster family, so that all of their history can be shared with you in person, and that we can be assured that you can fill all of their needs, demands and requirements.
Both come with 5 weeks free insurance via our rehoming partner, Agria.
Both, as with all of our hounds will have full rescue back up for life

June 2026

Fergie (the brown and white boy) has just turned 7 years old, and Sully (the black and white boy) is just under 6 years old, recently joined us- they are the 4th and 5th basset from last weekend.

They have come into us after having spats in the home as well as change of circumstances with the family. The original plan was that they would need to be separated, as Fergie was being very bulshy and unpredictable. Their family has worked really hard with them over the last couple of months, and they are getting on so much better now; they also do rely on each other to some extent so we’ve decided, with the help and commitment from a wonderful foster family to see if they can stay together.

So far we haven’t seen any reason to separate them. They were very nervous when they arrived and a bit growly, but they are slowly warming to their foster family and hound siblings.

Both reportedly suffer with separation anxiety and are also guarding of high value treats, both of which will be worked on whilst they are in our care.

Sully was entire when he joined us, and has already been to the vet to have his big boy operation as well as some dental work. Sully did have a bit of a complication during surgery. His tonsils were very swollen and the vet struggled with the sedation tube. Swabs were taken and he came home with antibiotics to remove any infection. Blood work was completed before the surgery and nothing was flagged up there, so we are hopeful this is something and nothing. His bill of £1487.48 is below, which didn’t include the removal of the, erm…present he left behind the reception desk at the vets!
