Giving Up a Treat to Treat a Basset in Need

Since 2018, Coffee For Bassets has been one of the most important annual fundraising events for the Basset Rescue Network Great Britain family — and every single donation has helped rescue, care for, and support Basset Hounds across the UK.

The idea is simple:

On one special day each year, we ask our incredible supporters, their friends, families, colleagues, dog-walking communities, local businesses, and even drinking buddies to donate the cost of a small treat to help Bassets in need.

That could be:

  • Your morning coffee ☕
  • Your lunch at work 🥪
  • A chocolate bar 🍫
  • Your Friday night takeaway 🍕
  • Your end-of-week pint 🍺
  • Your weekend G&T 🍸

Anything you can spare makes a difference.

Why Coffee For Bassets Matters

Since launching in 2018, Coffee For Bassets has raised an amazing £22,091.55.

We are incredibly grateful for every penny donated.

But the reality of rescue work is that veterinary care and ongoing support for the hounds in our care comes at a huge cost.

For the financial year ending October 2025 (full accounts will be published on Companies House and the Charity Commission shortly):

  • £86,343.07 was spent on vet bills alone
  • Total charity expenditure reached £139,925.43

And remember — nobody within the charity personally profits from this money. Every pound spent goes directly toward the welfare of the hounds.

As of 24th May 2026, the charity bank balance stands at:

£26,828.23

(gulp)

That’s why fundraising events like Coffee For Bassets are so vital.

What Do Donations Pay For?

The simple answer?

Vet bills. Lots and lots of vet bills.

Some Bassets only need basic care such as:

  • Vaccinations
  • Flea and worming treatments
  • Neutering
  • Dental work

Others arrive needing:

  • Treatment for chronic ear infections
  • Skin condition care
  • Investigations and diagnostics
  • Major surgery
  • Long-term rehabilitation

These are bills we hope most owners never have to face in their own dog’s lifetime.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we fundraise so often?

Because as a registered non-profit charity, rescue work can only continue if the funds are there to support it. Without donations, we simply cannot rescue hounds.

Do foster carers get paid?

Absolutely not.

Our foster families open their homes purely for the love of the hounds. In most cases, they even cover the dogs’ food costs themselves unless a specialist veterinary diet is required.

Why do we have wish lists?

Wish lists allow supporters to directly help individual hounds and become part of their welcome into the BRNGB family.

We try to include gifts across a wide range of prices so everyone can contribute in a way that suits their budget.

Why do we run raffles?

Because we love giving something back to our supporters while raising much-needed funds for the dogs.

Do the Trustees get paid?

Not a penny.

No fuel expenses, internet bills, phone bills, or personal time are charged to the charity. Everything is done voluntarily for the love of the rescue and the hounds.

Are the charity accounts transparent?

Yes.

As a registered charity, accounts are publicly available through Companies House and the Charity Commission. We also try to share veterinary invoices for major treatments so supporters can see exactly what the rescue is facing.
