Flash is a wonderful year old Basset x Collie.

He’s been in foster since mid December.  He was with his original family with his litter sibling and was surrendered at around 10 months old.

He went into foster with a family who have a resident dog, however he started reacting to other people, dogs and horses, so for everyone’s peace of mind he was moved to our own Dawn and her pack of hounds.

Pack life does not suit Flash, there are some dogs that he’s happy to play with, happy to be corrected by and be out and about with.  However there are also some within the pack that he will not accept corrections from, and he will push boundaries.

He cannot be in with the pack constantly so spends a lot of his time in the kitchen, where he can see humans and hounds alike and where he can relax.  He knows this is his safe space and appeared to be quite happy in his space, with regular walks, supervised play time and one to one human interation.

WARNING: The next video is distressing

Although Flash has given the impression that he’s happy in his space and content to watch the pack and have his play time with them, he has managed to injure himself by grooming his testicles, we suspect he’s been doing this at night when he’s not being watched as no one has seen him actually do this to himself.

He is having medication and it is being monitered, but we do believe this is stress related, despite no other signs being present of any stress.

Flash is totally clean in the house, he knows how to ask to go out; he is not destructive at all.  He also understands the quiet command if he starts getting noisy. He knows all basic commands and he is so gentle and sweet with humans.

Flash enjoys a sniffy walk, he is strong on the lead and will need further training in this respect.  He can also be fear reactive to other dogs and people, again this needs further training.  He does get better once he realises that his human will be there by his side helping him through his fear.  He will bark with excitement to see people and want greet them, then the next person he sees he can bark at them through fear.  He is ultimately a very under socialised puppy.  We will of course provide assistance with training for all aspects which Flash struggles with.  He can be distracted when out walking, again training will be provided in distraction techniques.

Flash needs human interaction, he needs his own humans to call his own and to love and for them to love him and work with him to help him get over his fears.  His confidence needs building and he needs a family to trust.

We do not believe that Flash can live with other dogs, he needs that one to one attention.  Once he has been introduced to other dogs, and he understands them, he can have play mates, but not in his house.

What are we looking for?

A human or a human couple who can help Flash, be that as a foster or to foster with a view to adopt.

A human who understands fear reactivity

A human who will be willing to work with a trainer to help Flash become the boy we know is in there once he gets over his fear of the world

A human who will give Flash all the love, attention and cuddles that he thrives on and needs

Flash has not been cat tested or small furry tested so we would recommend these are not in his future home

If this is you, please contact us to discuss Flash further.

We’ve acttached a link for the adoption link, any applications for Flash will be taken as a potential Foster but we are more than happy to discuss his future with the right family

We will speak to every application we receive so we can ascertain if you and Flash are a match and give further details.
