We have many hounds in our care at the moment, some of who need to live alone; Aida (above) for example is currently in foster with other bassets and sausage dogs, but the reality is she needs to be on her own to flourish fully.  Don’t get us wrong, she’s happy in foster, but we know she could be happier not sharing her space.

It is believed that Hounds need to be part of a pack, and that to a certain extent is true, most dogs like living with other dogs and enjoy other dogs for company.

We have found however, more so since lock down, that some hounds just need to be alone.  This could be for various reasons such as:

They’ve always lived alone

They haven’t been socialised when younger

They like their humans to themselves

They have been picked on by another resident dog in the past

They can’t share their space

They requrie specialised care which takes up a lot of time

They are nervous of other dogs

We are finding people who want to foster beleive that they can’t foster for us because they have no other dog at home.

We are crying out for dog free fosters, people who know and understand basset hounds, people who are around a lot of the time, do not have children under the age of 6 and just want to help a hound find their forever home.

So please, if you want to foster but think that you can’t because you do not have another dog at home, think again.  We need you!

Please have a look into fostering for us, a link to the application form is below.

We look forward to hearing from you (and so does Aida!)
