The Basset Rescue Network of Great Britain
#NOBASSETGETSFORGOTTEN
Name: Edward
Sex: Male
Age: 10
Location: Suffolk
Edward is 10 years old but fit and healthy and an absolute bear of a basset with huge paws that are like lion paws.
He has so much love to give to his person. He comes across shy at first but when he knows someone, he is just a gentle giant. If bassets were popstars he would be love god, Barry White. He has the deepest bark I ever heard, which he saves for dinner time and postmen.
He has had problems with his eyes in the past and it’s left some clouding on both but this doesn’t seem to affect his eyesight.
He loves to walk but he’s a big boy that, previously, probably hadn’t had many, so he likes to take it easy. However he can pick up some speed if he catches the scent, but he’s always happy to come back to you.
He has never been aggressive to us or the dogs and happily accepts visitors to the house.
He likes a play occasionally and has fitted in with our two resident dogs with ease.
Edward is also a good traveller, probably the best traveller we have had. On our trips out he has laid quietly in the back of the car with no ill affects or sickness.
His favourite pastimes are lying on his back in the garden, on his back sunbathing or sitting at the gate watching the world go by. He has never shown any inclination to get on our bed and happily sleeps next to us on his own bed at night, with no problem.
He is an absolute sweetheart, full of affection and without a bad bone in his body.
He just wants someone to love him.
Edward needed some lumps and bumps removed whilst in foster, all came back clear and he’s made a full recovery.
He’s also been castrated and his tummy is now no longer dragging on the floor when he walks.
Just look at that happy face! Edward could be an only dog or live with a calm companion. He’s quite happy on his own watching his people and the world go by.
Edward could live with a dog savvy cat with careful introductions. He is currently living with chickens, as long as there is some fencing seperating them he’s happy to ignore them.
He enjoys his outtings, but his age and size makes him lumbering so he’ll never be breaking any land speed records!
He loves his food and treats.
Edward is good with children, however he does attach himself to people and will follow children around wanting to be close to them, so this needs to be considered if you have a busy household; Edward may not be the right fit for you as his life is at his pace and he deserves to have a slower paced life.
Do you tick Edward’s boxes? Are you his forever home? If you think you are we would love to hear from you.
Edward will need someone who is at home more often than not and prepared to put in the time to help him settle. He loves his people so needs someone who will be his person at home most of the time.
- Someone who is willing to work with Edward in building a relationship and trust and be patient whilst she get to know you and her new home
- Dog savvy cats who will be happy to share their home with Edward
- Dog savvy older children who are happy to be followed around and loved by Edward
- A resident dog is not a must, but if there is one, they need to be able to accommodate Edward’s lack of speed
- A family who will happily take Edward out and about but understand he’s not going to be completing marathons
- Patience and time to spend with Edward in the crucial first few weeks as Edward adapts.
Taking on a rescue dog is not the easy option. You need to be prepared to help a confused and troubled hound find their place in your family. They have been through a massive upheaval and will need time to settle into a new way of life, so please consider this BEFORE you fill in an application.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Edward is subject to an adoption fees and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family including dogs will need to be able to travel to his foster home to meet Edward and his foster family.
You will also have a telephone call with a member of the team, plus Edward’s foster family, so that all of their history can be shared with you in person, and that we can be assured that you can fill all of their needs, demands and requirements.
Edward comes with 5 weeks free insurance via our rehoming partner, Agria.
Edward as with all of our hounds will have full rescue back up for life.
Edward’s applications will close on Saturday 20th May at 8pm
