Congratulatins Scrappy on finding your forever home!

Scrappy went off to his new family earlier in the week, he's got a new basset sibling to play and run around with and early reports are that he has settled in really well and taken everything in his stride.

He really is a wonderful lad who has shown his true self whilst in foster, playing and just being a hound!

His foster family are heartbroken seeing him go, but knowing he's happy and enjoying life is taking a little bit of the pain away.

Thank you to his foster family who had Scrappy in their homes for 8 months whilst he was fully assessed, neutered, lumps and bumps removed and tested.

Thank you also to all of his supporters.

6th April 2024

Scrappy, a soon to be 5-year-old, came to us as an emergency foster in September in 2023 through no fault of his own.

It was clear that he was not fully house trained at the time and was used to spending most of his day crated, again through no fault of his own. He has taken to training brilliantly and is now house trained, apart from the rare accident if he has been extremely excited/ anxious.

He is also now neutered and immunised.

Scrappy really is the dream foster – he is a wonderful, loving boy who loves being cuddled and near his humans. He has settled well into pack life with our resident hounds and has learned how to play both with them and with toys, neither of which he did previously.

Scrappy is always the first to greet us in the mornings, or when we get home from work, with his favourite toy in his mouth.

He adores attending doggy day care and the report from there is much the same – that he is a wonderful boy who is no trouble and has settled easily into life with all the other dogs who attend. In fact, everyone who meets him has commented on how good tempered and loving he is.

Scrappy walks superbly on the lead and is not phased by other dogs. He loves his walks and the freedom field. His recall is again excellent.

Scrappy loves his food and eats fast! He will look to eat what ever food is left in the other bowls if allowed to – this did lead to a slight altercation with one of our hounds on one occasion when he attempted to put his nose into the bowel while the other dog was still feeding – he did learn his lesson and has never tried this since, when we have forgotten to close the door between them, but to avoid anything we have taken to feeding him away from the others.

He sleeps downstairs with the rest of our pack with no issues, and can be left at home with them, again with no issues. We have never left him for more than 4 hours.

We do suggest that he would be better with a family who are able to exercise him regularly and have at least one resident dog for Scrappy to play with and keep him company when the humans are out.

Scrappy shows no interest in cats when out and about so a dog savvy cat in the home should be OK.

Any children in the home would need to be over 10 years old, as Scrappy does tend to jump up and we wouldn't want smaller children being injured.

We would also advise not to crate him – when we first had him, we were advised he might prefer the crate as he was used to it – we soon realised the opposite, and Scrappy made it very clear he was not going in!

Scrappy came to us with a lump on his chest - this was removed, and histology has shown it to be a low-grade histiocytoma with low chance of spread. However, the vet has advised that if he does develop further lumps that he needs to be seen by a vet and the lump biopsied potentially.

We love and adore this boy! If circumstances were different, he would not be going anywhere else; however, we already have a pack of 6 and would be unable to continue to foster for BRNGB, which is why he is up for adoption to find him the most perfect family.

He will complete your family and love you 110% if you give him the love and attention he deserves

Scrappy's needs -

- at least one other playful dog

- someone who will be home most of the time in the early days to help him settle in

- someone who is happy to go on walking adventures

- someone to have a snuggle and a cuddle at the end of the day

- someone who is home most of the day - Scrappy can only be left up to 4 hours

- can live with smaller dogs and cats

- any children will need to be over 10 years old as Scrappy does like to jump up and we wouldn't want them knocked over

Scrappy's Applications close at 8pm on Saturday 13th April

Taking on a rescue dog is not the easy option. You need to be prepared to help a confused and troubled hound find their place in your family. They have been through a massive upheaval and will need time to settle into a new way of life, so please consider this BEFORE you fill in an application.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Scrappy is subject to an adoption fees and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family including dogs will need to be able to travel to his foster home to meet him and his foster family.

You will also have a telephone call with a member of the team, plus Scrappy's foster family, so that all of his history can be shared with you in person, and that we can be assured that you can fill all of his needs, demands and requirements.

Scrappy comes with 5 weeks free insurance via our rehoming partner, Agria.

Scrappy, as with all of our hounds will have full rescue back up for life.

Thank you for reading Scrappy's blog. Please share where you are able

Update - 6th February 2024

Scrappy is doing really well in foster.  The current running joke is he will need his snout medically removed from his foster mum as he is really her shadow!

He has started his vaccinations and these will be finished on the 8th, then he's back in to the vets on the 12th to have some dental work as his teeth are sadly not in the best shape.

Now although his foster family love him dearly, he will be ready for his forever home soon.  His foster family are have fostered for us for a considerable amount of time and although they have room for a foster, if they adopted they wouldn't be able to continue fostering for us.  True dedication by them!

So good luck Scrappy and keep an eye out in the coming weeks for his blog (please don't apply now, any applications for Scrappy will go unanswered)

We've added some more pictures to his gallery below.

Scrappy joined us recently and is proving to be a lovely hound.

He is currently in foster with a pack of mainly hounds, and has lived within a pack of a mixture of breeds and cats previously.

He loves walks, and struts his stuff, welcoming attention from humans and other dogs.

He does suffer from slight seperation anxiety which his foster parents are working on but this will need continued work.

He needs neutering and a lump removed and checked from his tummy, then he will be ready for his his forever home.
