16th February 2025

Aida has been in foster now for over a year.  It’s been a really long battle with this lovely lady to get her fit and well.

Her foster family absolutely adore her so we knew we had time to get her healthy and find her forever home.

So what’s been going on with this lovely lady?

Throughout her time in foster her skin gets better, then will have a massive flare up again.  This delayed having her dental work carried out and also her spaying.

It’s not only her skin that gets effected, but in her time with us she has also suffered with bowel issues, she needed X-Rays as she was showing serious signs of being unwell.  The X-Rays showed that she was incredibly constipated.  She was sent home with strict instructions of plenty of fluids, extra walks to try to get some movement going and if that didn’t work then an anaemia would be required.  Potentially all the medication she had been on.  Thankfully this issue sorted itself and Aida was back to being Aida.

Her skin cleared up and stayed really healthy so it was agreed with the vet that she could be spayed and this was carried out in August.  Everything was on track for Aida’s adoption, but then, of course her skin flared up again and required further treatment. This was treated with further antibiotics.  Once this settled her dental was booked back in.

But oh no Aida has to be Aida and she come down with a server case of gastroenteritis, so her dental was delayed until she was fully recovered.

We are pleased to say that Aida finally had her dental and her mouth is all nice and healthy.  So she’s also been spayed, the only issue now is her skin.

When she arrived she had severe hair loss and terrible skin with fungal infections.  5 months it took her foster family to get on top of this for her hair to come back and her coat to be healthy.  We through we were winning, but then there were flare ups.  We fear that Aida will always have flare ups with her skin, she clearly suffers with allergies and she will be monitored by her foster family  continuously.

It’s not only her skin that gets effected by these allergies but also her stomach.  She is specialist food which she will have to continue with to avoid flare ups with her tummy.

She’s suffered with phantom pregnancies in her time with us.  This girl has literally so much thrown at her it’s no wonder she has been in foster for so long.  But our aim is to help every basset that joins our family and we will continue to help this lovely girl.

June 2024

Aida has really been throgh it the last few months.

Here's a wonderful update from her foster family who are working hard with Aida to get her fit, well and healthy.  If love could fix her she'd be fully recovered by now!

She really is a poppet and we are so enjoying her.; she is relaxed and taking life easy when at rest.  Out on a walk the world is so full of smells she charges around on sensory overload.   We have her in a collar and use a retractable lead which works quite well.  I do use the harness but I feel there is more control with the collar,  Fortunately she is getting the hang of walking on a lead and doesn't pull so much so we're getting there.

Health wise. her anal glands needed to by emptied.  Apparently one gland points upwards and the other downwards, of course Aida needs to be different!

The skin issues flared up again so we are back on Cytpoint again which is helping and having baths every other day,   A lump under her front arm pit was found and the vet was pretty sure it was a fatty lump in the lymph gland.  it was not attached but as a precaution she was issued with Fuciderm/Isaderm cream to be used for 5 days.  This has been tested and thankfully this was just a fatty lump so no further intervention is needed.

We are still waiting for Aida to be spayed, The vet noticed that she was producing milk and diagnosed a phantom pregnancy.  it's been recommended that her food is reduced by a third ( 1 week) and plenty of exercise, the sheer movement of walking sets up a roll which must stimulate the production of milk.  We hoping this soon passes and Aida can then be spayed in July.

Aida joined the BRNGB family in November.

She's a lovely 5 year old girl, but she is suffering terribly with dermatitis.  She has been to the vet and has had pain injections, steriod injections and has medicated shampoo to use every other day.

She has some issues with her ears as well, which is probably down to the dematitis.

She has already made good progress on healing, so we are hopeful this will be overcome quickly.

Aida will need spaying before she is ready to be adopted.

She's a lovely girl, a little nervous, and can be a little festy when she wants to be.

Update

Just look at how well her skin is recovering after just a week or so of treatment and baths with medicated shampoo.  Amazing improvement.

With her skin improving Aida is feeling so much happier, she's been to meet some goats, she's been to coffee shops and garden centres.  She really is living her best life right now and we are so pleased to have been able to help her skin improve.  Hopefully once it is completely healed the treatments will stop and she will continue to be happy and healthy.

Just look at the improvement in the gallery below.

Update January

So Aida is now ruling the roost being an only hound in her new foster home.

We were told that Aida is wary of men, but as soon as she met her new foster dad, she decided he is her new favorite person much to his delight!

She was picking fights with the resident hounds in her original foster home so we found her a foster where she could be the only hound and be herself.  She has really relaxed now she doesn't feel she has to vie for attention.

Her skin is still a concern, she is still having baths and will be getting a vet check again soon.  She also still needs to be neutered.

She is being confident on walks meeting new people and new areas, we are just so pleased for her.

A massive thank you to her original foster, as Aida was an emergency when she came in you stepped up for us and kept her a lot longer than we thought would be needed.  You juggled your own hounds and life to support Aida and we are so very grateful to you.

Please do check out Aida's gallery below for her updated pictures
