Christmas is just round the corner so we wanted to update you all on our plans for the festive period.
We always stop adopting BRNGB bassets throughout December. This is because December is normally a very busy period for most households; visiting family and friends; out visiting; parties, which we do not feel is a suitable environment for a basset to settle into a new home. On the run up to December we ensure that our foster families are happy to continue caring for their foster hounds over the festive period, most of which will already be settled and happy within the home and have probably met all visitors already.
For the same reason, we also do not accept surrenders throughout December unless it is an emergency. It's difficult enough for a hound to come to terms of leaving their family and meeting a new foster family, without the added stress of visitors, parties and the general fun and excitement Christmas brings. It's also difficult to put together transport routes due to our volunteers having festive plans.
Despite the above, the team are still available to our foster families and hounds; to support families looking to surrender their hounds; and we will of course consider emergency surrenders during this period.
Please do not be put of reaching out to us during this period, we are still here, and we are still working away in the background as always but we have to put the welfare of the hounds first.
We will therefore not be taking any surrenders from the 1st December until the 6th January, unless it's an emergency, each case will be assessed on it's own merits. If we cannot accept your hound we will of course help you as much as we can remotely.
Thank you for understanding and please do enjoy lovely blind foster boy Cluseau with his emotional support Lenny!
With best wishes for Christmas - Sam M, Sam S, Dawn and Jo
