Winter

  • Age: 6 months

  • Sex: Female

  • Location: Lancashire

Winter joined the BRNGB family at 6 months old in July when the resident dog was getting more and more upset about her being in the home.

She settled well into foster life with a pack of bassets.  Although her foster family fell in love with her, they knew they would not be adopting her and as she was so young they wanted her to go to a foster family who could continue with her journey and who would more than likely adopt her.

We spoke to our foster families and one in particular wanted to foster Winter with a view of adopting.  As she is so young she has not been spayed yet, and we needed to ensure that she was adopted within the BRNGB family with people who we knew and would love her and when the time was right would arrange her spaying (which BRNGB will be funding of course).

Winter moved to her new foster family back in August and very quickly settled into rural life; unfazed by the cat, chickens and ducks, happy to play with her new (BRNGB) basset sister and the older resident dog.

She may have investigated the fish pond a little too closely.....what was a basset proof pond is now a Winter proofed pond!

Winter does still need treatment on her eyes.  She has entropion in both eyes, worse in the right than the left; however the vets do not want to carry out any procedure until Winter is fully grown.  At only 10 months old now she still has a lot of growing to do.  IN the meantime Winter’s eyes will be monitored and if any intervention is needed beforehand she will get what is needed.

Winter’s weight at the last weigh in was 21.5KG, and her recall is surprisingly going quite well, for a basset!

As you can see from the photos below Winter is loving life.

She has found her forever home and has been adopted by her foster family.

As she was adopted with ongoing eye concerns and obviously will need spaying when the time is right she has been adopted under a specific agreement so BRNGB are responsible for the eye surgery (if needed once she is fully grown) and the spaying.  We will of course let you know when this has been done.  If you would like to donate to her treatments a link is below.

In the meantime, a huge thank you to Winter’s original foster family who loved Winter and knew that as they were not going to adopt her that she needed a home where she could settle and grow.

Thank you also to everyone who supported Winter, be that transporting or donations to wish lists and her care.

The final thankyou to her foster family who are now her family.

We look forward to seeing Winter’s next adventures which we are sure there will be plenty.

13th July 2024

Winter has managed to defrost the hearts of the basset pack she is in foster with; the initial few days, they were all a little stand off'ish, nothing nasty, just weighing her up.  They are, as a pack, used to fosters coming and going, (Winter is afterall in foster with one of our long standing foster family, most of their pack being BRNGB hounds) and it's understandable that a pack needs to have a physical as well as an emotional re-jig when a new hound arrives......and one that is so young and needs to learn some manners will take a little longer to find their place within the pack.

Winter is enjoying play time, nap time, play time, cuddle time, oh and play time!  She does the rounds of the pack as to who she wants to annoy next, and who she wants to nap with!

Winter has been to the vet for her check up, they are very happy with her health, her dew claw has been trimmed and we are to keep an eye on that.  If it needs to be removed this will be done, but it doesn't seem to effect her at all.

She's doing so well with being clean in the house, she's not yet asking to go out, but she happily goes out and does her business when asked to.

Overall, she's a stunning looking girl, and we are getting really positive feedback from her foster family as to how she is progressing.

4th July 2024

Winter joined the BRNGB family on the 4th July.  She's proving to be a lovely girl.  She's only 6 months old but very confident and is settling into foster life with a pack of bassets to enjoy.  As you can see from the photos, she really is relaxed about her adventures!

Winter will need spaying when the time is right and is under assessment at present so please do not enquire about adopting her, any applications will go un-answered.

As you can see her eyes are a little weepy which we will get checked out; she also has a dew claw which is growing upwards so this will also be checked at her vet check which will happen in the next few days.  If it needs to be removed we will discuss this with the vet.

She's a very cuddly girl and not showing any signs of distress, well apart from a *ahem* "little" present left on the kitchen floor, but it's very early days and she is still very young and we are sure she will be clean in the house in no time.

Thank you as always and we will keep you updated on Winter's progress.
