We Hairy Henry has stolen hearts, socks, toys, a chicken from the neighbour’s farm (the chicken is fine), a (dead) bunny rabbit from the woods and now his foster family's heart.
Henry had a rocky start in foster with us; He was initially going to one of our long standing foster homes, but being entire Henry took a very, very strong interest in the resident female hound, even though she has been spayed many moons ago, he was insistent. For everyone's sanity Henry was moved very quickly.
Henry was surrendered to us after being home alone for some time when his owner became very poorly, this led, understandably, to him having severe separation anxiety. So severe it only took him half an hour to eat his next foster family's sofa; well eat may be a slight exaggeration but he definitely re-designed it.
Henry moved foster homes, not because of the sofa but because we realised how serious his SA was and that he couldn’t be left for the shortest time and, as we are sure you will agree a lot of households cannot have someone home 24/7.
Henry settled well with his new foster family and hound siblings. Sadly however a death in the family meant that Henry needed to move again.
Henry’s last move, and he settled wonderfully. He’s cheeky, he’s stubborn, he’s funny, he loves the children and the resident dogs and has become a lovely long haired ASBO hound!
So lovely his foster family couldn’t say goodbye to him so we are very pleased to announce Henry has been adopted.
A massive thank you to every single foster family who helped Henry, some of these Hounds really need a village and regardless as to how long he was with you, you were all part of his journey.
Thank you also to all of Henry's supporters, donators and volunteers.
We look forward to hearing all about Henry’s adventures!
June 2024
Henry, oh Henry! The boy that destroyed sofas, can't be left alone, moved around a couple of fosters, is the happiest, cheekiest, goat climbing impersonator going. Come on then, let's have your update!
Here's what his foster family have to say
We are doing lots of training around possessive behaviour, he's not nasty when he steals things but it's something we want him to understand. He isn’t quite so invested in it as he was, just loves running off with the things and waiting for us to try and get them off him. We’re trying to make it less of a game and will continue to work on this.
He has the zoomies at 6 pm every night and loves to go for a walk, a very slow walk because he likes to sniff every blade of grass. He’s very good with other dogs (and people) on his walks, definitely a social being.
He loves his food.... and our food..... and the cats food...... and the children’s food.... in fact any food, even if that involves stealing a lasagne and smooching it into the carpet!
Henry definitely doesn’t like to be left at all, which is understandable. Whether this will ever be oversome remains to be seen. He comes with me in the morning to take the children to school, at first he was a bit reluctant to get in the car. I think maybe that was just because of his long journey here but now he’s quite happy to sit in the car.
He loves to chase his foster dad around the house, they play hide and seek which is really funny.
He’s very good with his commands. He will sit and lie down and the kids are trying to teach him paw at the moment. He sleeps on the bed and any sofa (but not dog beds , obviously because he isn’t a dog!) We love him and his full title is Henry the hairy hooligan which definitely sums him up.

Well Henry has been neutered, but of course, as most things with Henry it wasn't smooth sailing. Henry is suffering with a mild infection after the operation and has been back and forth to the vets for checks and antibiotics. We're hoping we're on top of this now, and so is Henry as he hates the cone of shame.
It is his life aim at the moment to break every cone he has been given, if he doesn't wear it then he is just nibbling at the surgery site and making the infection worse. He also has realised that the cone makes an amazing battering ram when playing with the resident hounds!
Henry really is a happy go lucky boy on the outside, but quite a worried, anxious boy on the inside. He is slowly sleeping on his own, but the extend of the seperation anxiety and the destruction that goes with it runs really deep with this lad. We fear that it will never be overcome 100%, but with training, reassurance and getting Henry settled with his family will really help him.
4th May 2024
Henry has been, understandably showing huge signs of seperation anxiety. We say understandably as when his owner was taken poorly Henry was left home alone for some time with family members popping in to him.
He originally went to one foster but had to be moved as an emergency because he just would not leave the resident female dog alone. She was spayed some years ago, but she gives off a "lovely" scent to the boys and she is just irresistible. He was going to hurt himself or the resident dog.
We had a back up foster who Henry then moved to; there would be someone home 98% of the time which the family really thought they could work with and arrange their lives to be home with Henry 24/7 which is a massive ask.
After a rocky start, a sofa re-designed, a cat on the verge of leaving home, Henry started to settle and show the world his true colours or what a very special, loving boy he is. He loves going out and about, his walks, meeting people and pub visits.
However, being home 24/7 is a massive ask, and after a lot of soul searching, trying to juggle work and family diary it was obvious that despite being there 98% of the time, there was that 2% that just couldn't be filled and with Henry going in the right direction, his foster family, selflessly asked us to find him a new foster where someone would be there. They were heartbroken to see him go but knew it was for the best.
So Henry is now with his new foster family, where someone is home 100% of the time, and if they have to go out there is another foster just up the road who can Henry sit.
Honestly this boy not only has you, the supporters behind him but a whole bunch of fosters behind him.
He will be getting neutered in the coming days and then his journey will continue.
We're so excited to watch him grow with confidence.
16th April 2024
Henry joined the BRNGB family on the 13th April. A very nimble, cheeky, into everything 3 year old long haired basset.
He came into our care when his owner was taken very poorly. Sadly Henry was home alone for a few days whilst the family made the decision that he was to come to us.
Whilst Henry is a very lively, cheeky, mountain goat in disguise (yes that's a kitchen table he's stood on!) he, understandably has some issues being left alone at the moment which his foster family will be working on.
He loves walks, and playing with a ball.
We will update on Henry as his journey progresses.
