Well it's been a massive long road for Florence to get spayed since joining us back in February. As you'll see below she had a few complications to overcome before it could happen, then of course the dates wouldn't line up with her seasons.
Finally Florence was spayed, however she suffered from an infection which then needed quite a course of antibiotics to clear up. We are grateful for her foster family for being so aware of Florence's personality and realising so quickly that things were not right.
Since her spaying and the infection clearing up Florence has become a different hound; she's out front on walks now, her foster family having to have a little jog to keep up with her. She's a lot happier in herself and is really bright and perky.
Florence has been with her foster family for so long now whilst waiting to recover from her surgery, then her spaying, then recovery from the infection that her foster family decided they couldn’t be without her and have now adopted Florence.
She’s living the life of riley with her BRNGB brother and other doggy siblings and we are so pleased for her.
Thank you to Florence’s supporters and transport team.
Congratulations Florence, we look forward to hearing about your adventures.
Update June 2024
The breathlessness that Florence has been experiencing was a couple of things.
1. Florence had some X-Rays which showed a possible foreign body inside. With past experience (remember Claude?) we know this can be fatal and immediate investigations need to be undertaken. However Florence decided differently and managed to throw up a stone which she decided was worth ingesting! The shape of the stone matches the X-rays so thankfully, Florence has been given the all clear in this respect and no further investigations or surgery is required regarding this. We are so pleased as Florence has been going through it all recently with surgery.
2. Florence had some lumps and bumps which were removed and have come back all clear. We think maybe this was just making her (along with the stone) feel a bit rubbish and not wanting to join in with her foster pack.
So the next step of Florence's journey is her spaying which has now, finally, been booked in for late July due to her season dates.
Florence has settled really well into foster life and is a happy girl who loves hound and human attention.
Updated 30th May 2024
Florence is still waiting for her spay, she came into season not long after she joined the family so we are hoping this will happen in the next month.
However, we have had a worrying update from Florence's foster family:-
Florence seemed to be panting rather unusually early when out on her walks....when the other dogs never get to the point of panting. She wasn't distressed with her breathing, or breathing hard...just panting sooner than you would normally expect. The vets have also let us know that although her other lumps on her back etc came back benign, they did not test her mamary lumps as these will be removed during the spaying op. However, with the breathing situation and delay to her spay due to coming into season, they want to get her in as soon as possible to xray her lungs and remove the mamary lumps in case they are cancerous and don't want to leave it until her spay op.
So poor Florence needs some investigations and it can't wait until her spay. Her spay estimate is in her gallery below, we are however waiting for the quote for the investigations, not that the cost will stop us getting whatever she needs.
We will update again on Florence as soon as we have news.
Updated 1st April 2024
Florence is proving herself to be a lovely girl. She's loving her walks and has managed to lose a little bit of weight.
She did manage to injury her paw the other week when out walking and ripped her nail, but she was a superstar and has fully healed.
She needs to be spayed which will be booked in soon.
At her health check when she first arrived she had a needle biospy carried out on one of her lumps we are just waiting on the results of this.
She has settle into life with other dogs in foster really well and is coming out of her shell nicely.
We will update again once we have the results from the vet.
Meantime, she's learning how to catch biscuits before the other resident dogs get there first!

Florence joined the BRNGB family in February and is an absolute gem of a girl.
She's had her wish list, thank you everyone who donated.
She loves her walks, and her snoozes in the sun.
She needs to be spayed and a few lumps and bumps taken care of. She's got a little ouchie at the moment, she managed to snag one of her claws when out walking, but that doesn't stop her loving life!
We will update on Florence as her journey continues.
