Meg was one of the hounds let down by two different applicants recently. 

She's had a wonderful time in foster, the little humans in her foster family just adored her, so after the second heartbreak of being let down, their pleadings won over the bigger humans in the family and they decided they were not going to go through it all again and asked to adopt Meg! 

We are so happy for Meg and her family, everything happens for a reason, even if that reason at the time hurts. 

Congratulations Meg on your adoption!  We couldn't have asked for better for you.

Meg joined the BRNGB family on the 26th November. 

She's very nervous at the moment and had to be coaxed into the house.  She is apparently very nervous of men and suffers with car sickness (that she proved today on her transport!) 

Incredibly early days for her so we will have to update over the next week once we know more about her, but she's being a very good girl so far.

The lovely Meg joined the BRNGB family in November 2024 and is the first blog of 2024. 

She had a bumpy start to foster life being nervous but here's what her foster family have to say about her

Meg (or Megamoo as she is called by the children) had a very worried start to her Foster placement with us, shying away from men. This has gotten better but she still has a little way to go. She shys away from them and likes to set the pace of the relationship. She has always been an angel with the children and has made a best friend in the little girl of the home.

Meg loves playing with other dogs but can be very pushy as she loves all the attention from her humans. She sleeps at the bottom of the bed, and quickly climbs up to the top when alarms go off for some fuss before the day starts.  

She has a very loud voice, which she likes to use in the morning if breakfast is not served quickly and when she needs a play mate. She likes to nudge if you do not stroke her for long enough or you keep her waiting.  

She has 2 meals a day, 2 walks a day and is very well behaved on the lead as long as you keep walking. She enjoys a little patch to dig in the garden. 

She is extremely friendly and loving to her human and she just wants to cuddle on your lap or chest next to you just isn't close enough.  

Character quirks (Not so favourable parts for some) She gets wary if people move in the night and growls but never moves anywhere but likes to think she is protecting her humans. She barks when people come to the door and post things through the door. 

She can continuously bark if she wants to play with a man - she's not quite figured out they are being her friend. She does not like to be left on her own for long periods of time - she likes to bring you gifts when you come in.. whatever she can grab. (She is partial to chewing pens and bringing you dirty washing!)  

Meg will try to chase cats on walks, and wants to go off with other dogs, she has not lived with a cat, so potentially she could live with a dog savvy cat but would need careful introductions 

She is in foster with other dogs, but will be pushy when she wants all the attention.  She could live with another dog, but it would need to be confident and playful and help Meg understand that she can't get her own way all the time.  Again introductions will be required 

She can guard her toys from other dogs - she is happy to share food.. just not toys. As per basset nature she will take your dinner given the opportunity. She won't snatch but if children don't make it clear they are eating eg. Just holding it she will take it (gently) and if given the opportunity she will take it off the plate. 

Do you fit Meg's needs:-

-  A playful, confident resident dog 

- Can be an only dog but needs play mates and play dates becuase she loves playing 

- A dog savvy cat with careful introductions 

- Someone home most of the time as Meg doens't like being left for too long 

- Someone who (if living with resident dog) understands that boundaries need to be set and continued training will be required

- Full resuce back up is given for life 

Applications close 8pm 6th February 2024

Taking on a rescue dog is not the easy option. You need to be prepared to help a confused and troubled hound find their place in your family. They have been through a massive upheaval and will need time to settle into a new way of life, so please consider this BEFORE you fill in an application.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

Meg is subject to an adoption fees and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family including dogs will need to be able to travel to their foster home to meet her and her foster family.

You will also have a telephone call with a member of the team, plus Meg's foster family, so that all of her history can be shared with you in person, and that we can be assured that you can fill all of Meg's needs, demands and requirements.

Meg comes with 5 weeks free insurance via our rehoming partner, Agria.

Meg as with all of our hounds will have full rescue back up for life.
