Sadly Marco's cherry eye surgery wasn't 100% sucessful so he needed to have a further little operation, which we are so pleased to say was a success and all is now well with his eyes.  The vet was amazing and we weren't charged for the second surgery, only the drugs needed.

We recently got this message from his foster family; they've fostered several times for us, adopting Dolly; sadly being with Gadget when he crossed the bridge; and in between have had emergency foster hounds for us, Haggis and Beryl who used to live with Marco included.

Marco is a beautiful hound with a gentle nature.  He came in to us with Warwick(Haggis) who initially showing stress by panting and shaking, though Marco seemed less troubled, he was probably shocked and shut down. His life as a kennel dog was limited to an isolated property with a female Basset so everything he experiences is new and we have never had a kennel dog so it’s also new to us. We are focused on doing whatever we can to give him a good and happy life and he seems to be happy with us and the other dogs. He is now improving physically and getting closer to us and we all love him, but I think we understand this is not a quick fix in fact what goes on in his head may take considerably longer to sort out than the physical issues. The three of us have discussed possibly adopting him and think that as he is settling we would like to be considered as potential adopters. I am aware that the decision is yours and whatever you decide will be in the best interest of Marco.

Well who are we to deny this?  Of course we welcomed the idea of Marco staying where he is.  As you can see from above, he does struggle emotionally and we really would not want to put him through a further move.  He is happy and content with his family including the hounds.

So massive congratulations Marco, you've found your forever home who will hold your paw through every new experience.

Thank you so much to Marco's supporters and donators.  Without you we wouldn't have been able to get the treatment needed by this wonderful boy.

Massive thank you to his new family for loving him.

19th August 2024

Marco is such a wonderful boy and being separated from Haggis really doesn’t seem to have upset him at all.  He’s become very attached to Dolly one of the resident Hounds, who you may recall has recently been adopted from BRNGB.

Marco has been neutered and has had his Cherry eye operated on.  It does appear that maybe the Cherry is returning, but this is being monitored by the vet and if further  surgery is required, this is booked in for the 28th August.  Thankfully the vet will only be charging for the anaesthetic if a second surgery is required which may involve the removal of this third eyelid.

When Marco was neutered a hernia, similar to what Haggis had was also found and one of his testes was a lot smaller than the other.  This could be as a result of a tumour, the vet found fat from his abdomen had descended into the testis.  Part of his abdomen could have descended so the vet pushed everything back to where it should have been and stitched this up.  A close eye is being kept on Marco to ensure no further swelling appears, if this happens he has to go straight back to the vets.

Marco has also suffered with bilateral conjunctivitis which he was prescribed drops for; he has also suffered with ear infections.

Despite all of the above Marco is a loving boy who is happy to share his love with hounds and humans, although he still has to work out how a dog bed works!

If you would like to donate to Marco’s care the link is below, as well as the link for our raffle to win up to £200 worth of Amazon vouchers.  The raffle ends on Wednesday 21st August at 8pm.

Huge thank you to Marco’s foster family who had both Marco and Haggis for a short time as well as collecting them both from their original home.  The are working hard with Marco to get him into full health and we know he is in good hands.

18th July 2024

Please give a big BRNGB welcome to Marco and Warwick who joined the family today.

Warwick (front, slightly lighter face) is 7 years old, Marco (darker face) is 6 years old.

Both are under assessment, so please do not enquire about adopting them, any applications will go unanswered.

Both boys were stud dogs, and are quite happy in each other's company, however as they are both entire they will be making their way to seperate foster homes in due course to be assessed seperately.  We think their teeth will need some treatment, they will both need neutering, and of course anything else, if anything else is noted.

Marco appears to have cherry eye which if treatment is recommended and needed we will get this arranged for him.

They are enjoying a fuss and are exploring the house and garden as well as making friends with the resident hounds.

They will be having their initial vet check in the coming days, and we will update afterwards.

We have the privilege of adopting Dylan. The whole process was seamless and very reassuring that they cover all bases, both in relation to vetting us and also in the assessment of the hound
