We are so pleased to announce that Lucille has gone off to her forever home recently.
She had a wonderful meet and greet, her new family understand her little ways and we are confident she will thrive with them and their love.
Early updates have confirmed that all is well. She really is a special girl who knows her own mind.
Massive thank you to Lucille's transport team and of course to her wonderful foster family who worked so hard with her during her time with them.
Another hound, happy and settled!

Lucille has been in foster for 2 months and is now ready for her forever home.
Lucille knows her own mind and will need a home and family who are prepared to work at her pace, although this doesn't mean she is difficult or naughty, it just takes her a little while to find her place and to trust.
Lucille is fed PRO PLAN VETERINARY DIETS HA Hypoallergenic Dry Dog Food and we would strongly suggest that she is not moved from this. Other foods containing meat protein, inlcuding fish can cause her skin becomes inflammed, itchy and she comes out in hot spots. Lucille is happy on this food, although she will try to tell you differently, and she just loves fruit and vegetables as treats.
Lucille does not like small children, so we will only consider homes with children who are over 12 years old.
Here's what her foster family have to say about her:-
Lucille is a lovely tri colour and has a wonderful lace ear.
Whilst with us, we have met a few challanges, but the girl has done good.
Initially she chased the resident cats and we didn't think they would ever get along, but a few weeks down the line she's OK with them, we've even found them sleeping together. She will sometimes still try to chase them but a firm no will suffice and she remembers her manners.
Lucille loves her collar and lead, she gets excited when she sees them come out and walks well. Lucille does not like her harness so we don't use this. Lucille can be reactive towards other dogs when out walking, she will either lie down or lunge. This will need further and consistent positive reinforcement training which BRNGB are happy to assist with. Lucille can be distracted by treats and a little "find it" game works well so other dogs can go past without any reaction. She does love to meet people when out and about for a little fuss. Lucille also loves to paddle in water.
Lucille is very scared of small humans she responds better to teenagers; she doesn't like lound noises and is scared of thunder. She will find you out and will sit with you for cuddles and reassurance.
During her assessment, Lucille has seen the vet. We can say she isn't a fan and can be growly and grumpy, but again reassurance given she's fine. Having her nails cut are a no no, she may need sedation when having her nails clipped.
Lucille may look dinky at 22kg (she has put on a little weight in foster but seems to now be at her perfect weight) but she adores food and is a contender for a gold in counter surfing! She certianly isn't fussy with her food and loves sweetcorn and watermelon as well as other fruit and vegetables.
Lucille likes to sleep in the same room as you, either on your bed or her own bed. She settles very well throughout the night. During the day she will sit by the door and bark if she needs to go out.
We have found that giving Lucille long lasting treats triggers her guarding instinct. If they are hard she will hide them somewhere when she is done having a chew and then guard them. When approached Lucille with give a warning growl. We have found that quick treats are not an issue, and she'll munch them down and carry on with her day. If Lucille has stolen something she knows she shouldn't have she will guard it, her growl when approached is her warning to you that she really wants to keep the stolen item, but she is open to a trade of cheese. Items need to be traded and not attempted to be taken from her as this will just enforce her guarding nature. A lump or two of cheese and she's happy to give it up. This is something which will need consistent posititve reinforcement training, which BRNGB are happy to assist with (and for humans to remember not to leave things laying around!)
Lucille has been left for up to 2 hours. She will initially bark and then will settle down nicely looking out of the window and having a snooze. Lucille has the run of the house when we go out.
Lucille loves her foster dad, she will quite openly sulk when he goes out, she isn't shy in making her distain felt by turning her back on her foster mum and have a huff and a puff about being left behind!
Lucille has a few tricks up her sleeve with her fabulous high five and although sounds hard work she really is a very loving girl, who will happily sit with you for a cuddle and a fuss, or accompany you out in the garden to see if she can assist in any way!
Lucille is crate trained and although this is up in the house she doesn't tend to use it, she will happily get up on the sofa, your bed or her bed to snooze and relax. She loves to make nests out of blankets
Lucille is currently in foster with cats, ducks and a parrot (who loves to throw her treats!)
She has been a lovely house guest.and whoever is lucky enough to adopt her w love this little pocket rocket.
Lucille has many loving traits, and she will love you so very much once she has trust in you.
Lucille's needs
- Someone who is home most of the time especially in the early days to help Lucille's trust build
- As long as they are dog savvy and you are willing to enforce the no chase Lucille can live with small furries
- No children under 12 years old
- A home which isn't massively busy and noisy as Lucille can be scared by sudden, loud noises
- Someone who will be willing to continue with positive reinforcement when out walking and meeting other dogs - BRNGB are more than happy to assist with this.
- Someone who understands rescource guarding and who is willing to continue working with this with positive reinforcement training - BRNGB again are more than happy to assist with this
- Someone who will continue with her specific diet
- Someone who sees the beautiful, cuddly, funny, cheeky, sulking side to Lucille
- Becasue of how Lucille can react to dogs she doesn't like we think Lucille will need to be the only dog in the home
Lucille's applications will close on Sunday 14th July 2024 at 8pm
Taking on a rescue dog is not the easy option. You need to be prepared to help a confused and troubled hound find their place in your family. They have been through a massive upheaval and will need time to settle into a new way of life, so please consider this BEFORE you fill in an application.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Lucille is subject to an adoption fees and a successful home check. If your home check is successful, your family including dogs will need to be able to travel to her foster home to meet her and her foster family.
You will also have a telephone call with a member of the team, plus Lucille's foster family, so that all of her history can be shared with you in person, and that we can be assured that you can fill all of her needs, demands and requirements.
Lucille comes with 5 weeks free insurance via our rehoming partner, Agria.
Lucille, as with all of our hounds will have full rescue back up for life.
Thank you for reading Lucille's blog. Please share where you are able

Lucille has had her vet check, as do all the hounds when they come into our care. She's a little dot at 18kg.
She wasn't a fan of the vet and did give a grumble to voice her distain. She is however a fan of the resident parott who feeds her naughty treats!
She can be a bit reactive to other dogs outside and her foster family are working on this.
We will continue to work on her and we are sure she will come on in leaps and bounds.

The beautiful girl Lucille joined the BRNGB family this weekend. She's 4 years old, 5 in November and is in the very early days of her foster.
We are really looking forward to watching her grow.
She has food sensitivities so has a very strict diet which her previous family worked hard to work out what she could and couldn't have. This will obviously continue as we don't want to cause her allergies to flare up. Although Lucille doesn't seem to have got the memo about this and is more than happy to eat everything possible!
Previously she lived with cats and anther dog, although the relationship between the dogs had broken down so sadly Lucille was surrendered to ourselves.
Her previous family report that she can be reactive to other dogs when out walking, and can get grumpy and stubborn in the house at times.
All of this we will be assessing and monitoring whilst Lucille is in foster.
As you can see however, she has settled in quite happily.
