Well, Crystal the little lady who came into us under an emergency surrender has had a bit of a journey.
She was spayed mid June and all was going well until mid July when she was showing signs of being unwell. An emergency x-ray was undertaken which showed potentially a blockage. Crystal went straight into surgery, and thankfully there was nothing found lodged inside her, nothing was left in her from her surgery. As a result of her spaying being as invasive as it was she’d had a tiny internal bleed from one ovarian tract. That had built up over time into a large hematoma. The vet's cut into, removed, cleaned out and stitched the offending area. She's had anti sickness and antibiotics and 24 hours later she was bouncing around as if nothing was wrong, much to the dismay of her foster family trying to convince her she needed to rest and recover.
Crystal was collected as an emergency by one of our transport volunteers who offered to keep her for a few nights until a foster could be arranged and Crystal then moved.
It became apparent within a day that Crystal was more than happy where she was, and her emergency foster family were more than happy to keep on fostering. Resident hounds and humans had fallen in love!
So, speed forward a few months, and guess what? Oh yes, her emergency transport/foster family have adopted Crystal, she won't be going anywhere!
Huge thank you to her family who dropped everything to collect Crystal, nurtured her through her surgery, reacted swiftly when it was apparent that she was unwell, and nursed her through her second surgery. Thank you as well to all of Crystal's supporters and donators.
We couldn't be happier for Crystal's pink sofa!
June 2024
Crystal has now been spayed, although the surgery was more complex than the vet was expecting as she was "thicker" than what they expected and she did bleed more than normal during the surgery. She has made a wonderful recovery and is in fine fettle!
Her leg doesn't seem to be bothering her, but we will get this checked again with the vet before the end of her 6 week assessment. The pain medication seems to have helped with the limp but we want to be sure that there is no underlying issue.
Crystal has intergrated herself happily within her foster family's pack and has become her foster dad's shadow. She plays wonderful, is nice and clean in the house and is generally loving life!
Early June 2024
We received a call from Social Services earlier this month, Crystal's owner had been taken into hospital and she was home alone. She was marked down as a removable object and they had permission from her owner to re-home her.
Thankfully they contacted us and we had a transporter collect her within 3 hours of the call.
Please note, one of the photos is very upsetting, we don't know how long Crystal was alone in the house.
Crystal will be 2 in September and has settled into her emergency foster home really well, trying to make friends with the resident hounds and claiming a spot on the sofa next to the humans.
She's been to the vets for a check up and to start her vaccinations. It appears that she has not been to the vets since she was a puppy.
She had her nails cut, flea and wormer treatments and a general health check. She has a limp with her front leg and the vet suspects Crepitus, which is a palpable or audiable grating or crunching sensation produced by motion. She has a course of metacam and will be going back next week for a further check up and to start her vaccinations.
She will also need spaying.
We are very grateful to Social Services for acting so swiftly, and to our transporter who dropped everything to make sure she got to safety.
