We are so pleased to announce that Toby has found his forever home.
A wonderful couple who already have a Basset of a similar age, fell in love with Toby and they had the most wonderful meet and greet and took Toby home with them.
2 days in and he's made himself at home, is playing wonderfully with their resident hound; although a little shy in the first day or so his personality is begining to come through.
We are confident his new family have all the experience to help Toby grow through his puppy stages. We are so proud of how far he has come.
Big thank you to Toby's original foster family who helped him so much in the early weeks of his time within the BRNGB family and his second foster family for helping him shine.
Good luck Toby, we will hear all about your adventures, and when you are big enough we'll be here to support you through your *ahem* little operation.
Thank you to everyone who supported Toby, be that transport or donations. You are all wonderful.

Toby is currently 15 months old. We are looking for a forever home for him where he can settle, continue learning with positive reinforcement training, be loved and when the time is right be neutered.
Ideally, we will not be consenting to Toby being neutered until he has settled into his new home, so at least 3 months. The right family will need to adopt Toby under a neuter agreement. This means we will be contacting his family on a weekly basis to see how Toby is progressing, we will need to have direct access to their vet, and be consulted when arranging his neutering. BRNGB will of course be funding his surgery.
Please read all of Toby’s blog. The following is incredibly important.
Sadly, just on the cusp of Toby being ready to be blogged to find his forever home there was an incident in his foster home which involved a snap. Toby was moved to another foster home to continue with his foster assessment.
The snap, although left a mark, did not draw blood. We believe Toby was startled when he was sleeping. No previous snaps have been reported either by his initial family, his initial foster family or his current foster family.
Since being at his new foster, and his assessment period re-starting Toby has been very settled and is enjoying playing with the resident and visiting dogs.
Toby has had a vet check to ensure nothing is going on and they are happy that he's a healthy young hound. He needs to put on a little bit of weight which shouldn't be a problem as he is eating like a horse at the moment so clearly having a growth spurt.
Here’s what his foster family have to say about Toby:-
Meet Toby he is a very happy hound.
Being still a puppy needs on going training and is an entire male so will need to be nurtured once he is old enough and settled, he has not shown any dominance over our dogs at all, just the occasional humping when he gets excited with them, but soon gets told off and he stops.
He lives with myself my husband and our two bassets I also run a daycare and boarding business so he is mixing with lots of different dogs each day he’s taken it all in his stride and loves playing with them all.
He settled in really quickly.
Due to Toby’s previous experience no children under 12 years in the home but he does really does need another dog to continue learning his manners with. We don’t feel he would do well as an only dog.
He is a typical puppy and needs lots of stimulation, mental and physical and at least one good walk a day.
Due to Toby’s previous experience in his original home, he hates crates and doesn’t like being handled by his collar. This is something that his new family will need to be totally aware of and respect.
Toby has been fine being left with our hounds up to 3 hours but make sure there’s nothing he can get to and chew that might harm him.
Toby has a guarding behaviour but since being with us he is learning to leave things he has stolen we give him a tasty treat and he’s gone from holding onto his precious steal to letting us have it and taking a treat. BRNGB will of course continue with assistance with this. Only positive reinforcement training methods will be accepted.
We have been walking him on a harness with a chest ring and a training lead; his recall is really good always comes for a treat unless he’s engrossed in a really interesting smell but I find calling him excitingly and giving his lead a gentle twitch, he comes to you .
My vet believes Toby is a little under weight and needs to gain some weight, we feed him on raw food which he loves but if his new owner wanted him put onto kibble I will make sure we transition him onto that before he leaves us.
We are working on him greeting visitors he jumps and mouths people when they visit, he has improved so much but his new owner will need to continue with this training.
loves being in the garden and playing with the other dogs, his favourite pastime when not playing is having a yak chew buffalo horns or similar, no soft toys as he does shred them.
As he’s still a puppy he loves getting up to mischief and pinching tv remotes or anything that takes his fancy just a typical pup.
Toby doesn’t like the Hoover what we have done is left the Hoover where he can sniff it and gradually bit by bit move it around which he doesn’t seem to mind but once you switch it on, he starts to bark but saying that it is getting much less and I think having our Hounds with him who don’t worry about the Hoover his helping him it’s a work progress. He was the same with our lawnmower when we first had him but is fine with it now.
Toby is a gorgeous boy and will make someone a wonderful companion.

Sadly, just on the cusp of Toby being ready to be blogged to find his forever home there was a incident in his foster home which involved a snap.
Understandably his foster family asked if we could move Toby to another foster so he could be re-assessed which we of course were more than happy to do. We arranged a transport team and Toby was moved recently to a new foster home in Cornwall.
A huge thank you to his transport team who really did go above and beyond to move Toby at very short notice.
Since being at his new foster, and his assessment period re-starting Toby has been very settled and is enjoying playing with the resident and visiting dogs. Just look at the wonderful play time he's getting.
Toby's foster journey will start again, he has had a vet check to ensure nothing is going on and they are happy that he's a healthy young hound. He needs to put on a little bit of weight which shouldn't be a problem as he is eating like a horse at the moment!
His new foster mum has asked for a couple of items on a wish list; now we have ordered Toby a smaller sized harness from Vinted using the money from our Vinted sales, but as he is on the cusp of sizes and is still growing we would be grateful for the next size up, so it's ready for him to grow into; his collar is also becoming tight, and he just loves Yak chews. If you are able to donate the link for his list is below

It's a shame Toby has to start his assessment again, but that is the beauty of foster homes. A different environment will show Toby in a different light and we are certain he is not a nasty lad, but we would rather delay his adoption and re-assess him than not investigate why he snapped. It was just the once so we are certain it's not an issue with Toby.
We are grateful to Toby's first foster family for giving him the start they did and loving Toby

13 month old Toby joined the BRNGB family on the 11th August. He's still very much a puppy in manners, demanding attention, stealing TV remotes and general puppy behaviour.
Toby is under assessment so please do not enquire about his adoption, any enquiries will go unanswered.
Toby's original family's committments meant that Toby was home alone for quite some time, they made the sad decision that he needed a home where someone would be around more for him. The children in the family loved him dearly and sent a lovely card with him so he knows how loved he is.
Toby does have some resource guarding issues which his foster family are working on. With time and training Toby will be a fabulous boy.
He's very polite with other dogs and listens to them when he wants to play when out walking. He respects when another dog tells him enough is enough and tones down the full throttle basset play he tries to instigate. He's begining to play with the resident dog and is showing nice manners in his play.
Toby has been very good at night-time and settles in the kitchen with the resident dog.
Toby's initial vet visit was very good, and he was given a clean bill of health. The vet said he is a very healthy boy, weighs in at 17.9kg and she said he was at the perfect weight. Toby does need to be neutured, but we will let him settle in before he has the op. He had his vaccinations and was a very good boy.
Don't let the photo fool you, Toby eats very well, so well he thinks every hour is dinner hour!
Toby doesn't need a wish list, however if you would like to donate to his care the link is below to do so, as well as the link to our current fundraiser where you could win up to £200.00 worth of Amazon Vouchers for £5.00. Every penny donated either way will go towards Toby and all the other hound's care.
